**UPDATE** AS predicted by your wonderfulselves i have now received a letter of 'intended litigation' from Debt Recovery Plus. Snap (lol). I was unable to find the original letter from legion on Money supermarket so was wondering if anyone could explain how i can scan and upload to help others??
Presuming im still ok to ignore the court threats?

That may be because the letters are shown on here MSE (not moneysupermarket!).

As in my post above, yes they are on there under UKPC in the sticky called 'private parking companies letters & threats'. Second to top thread here.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks 'coupon-mad', money supermarket - oops. sorry. Anyway, i have just received another letter from DRP 'reduced payment offer' from £90 to £72 if paid within 7 days. It states that they have referred my case to the client and have proposed issuing County Court proceedings against me. Also enclosed with the letter is a 'Help and Advice' leaflet which says it has been prepared by the office of fair trading offeringinformation on how to get free and confidential advice on debt.
    Assume i can still ignore??

Yes. Yet another well known letter.

Ask yourself this. If they have such a cast iron case against you, then why are they still writing instead of pursuing court action, and why is the amount they are prepared to accept getting lower?

Answer: Some money is a better result for them than no money at all.

They are beginning to run out of things to threaten you with. They will soon stop throwing good money after bad.

They can threaten to propose to start court proceedings, but they can't do it. It would be like a blackmailer taking their victim to court for non-payment.

So, keep on ignoring, just like you've ignored everything else.

The OFT leaflet is a cynical new trick. It isn't a debt, but by including the leaflet, they make it look as if it is. I believe that the OFT have been informed how they're being misused.

  • Sorry this is my first post and after having read all the other regarding Legion, would like to add that today I decided to ignore the fine after having written a letter to them for the fine received. At the time the attendant was just photographing and putting the fine under my windscreen with the following quote "don't worry love just tell them that its the first time you have parked here and they will cancel the fine, I have never known them to fine you on the first offence" and off he went with a jolly smile. When a letter was received by them refusing to cancel the fine after writing to them as suggested by the attendant I was devastated .....I am a pensioner with a disabled badge who stupidly did not park in the "designated" disable bays.....so it was quote "my fault". On reading all of your posts and on phoning Legion Group to find out if this is a Council owned car park...it is private.....I am now awaiting a deluge of letters and hope that I do not end up in Holloway Prison with a criminal record. Anyone who has succesfully beaten this Company please post back. Thanks in advance

    Hi Gordon

Assuming that what you got was a Parking Charge Notice not a Penalty Charge Notice (notice the subtle difference?)

You will not get a criminal record and nor will you end up in Holloway - but that's a female prison anyway - assuming you are male!

Were you displaying your blue badge at the time even though you weren't in one of the disabled bays? If so have a read of this current thread which may well be relevant: Click Here
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com
  • Thanks for your quick response. I am female gordon is maiden name.....I did display blue badge and in the letter sent I sent them a copy of this to no avail. They also sent me a copy of the parking info i.e. parking free if parking in a blue badge bay, which unfortunately I was not so.......where do i go from here.....

You have two choices. You pay and the matter goes away or - given that the enforceability of these charges is debatable - you chose not to.

Legion Group are members of the British Parking Association Approved Operators Scheme and as such are required to abide by the Code of Practice which says:
27.5 If your landowner provides a concession that allows parking for disabled people, if a vehicle displays a valid Blue Badge, you not issue it with parking charge notices.

Did Legion Group supply you with a POPLA code?
