    Jose Cuervo Margarita lists ingredients:

Water, Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila (21%), Natural Triple Sec and Lime Flavoured Spirit, Sugar, Acid E330, Acidity Regulator E331, Cloud Agent, Sweeteners E951, Sweetener E950, Preservative E202, Preservative E211, Colour E104.

    E951 is Aspartame, E950 is Acesulfame K.

Sainsburys Margarita is not the same product, but it's likely to have similar ingredients, that said the Sainsburys margarita is more expensive than the Jose Cuervo product and they also say
    http://www2.sainsburys.co.uk/food/foodandfeatures/safety_quality/articles/artificial_colours_flavours.htm

"we have reformulated them to remove all artificial colours*, artificial flavour enhancers including mono-sodium glutamate (MSG), the artificial sweeteners aspartame, saccharin and acesulfame k, and the benzoate group of preservatives."

So the most likely explanation is that the OP's girlfriend got smashed on tequila and threw up.

That said, the Sainsburys website says the product is made in Northern Ireland, probably by Diageo Global Supply of website, who are responsible for Jose Cuervo. So maybe Diageo did aspartame there, but again, it's a different product, so maybe not....

Anyway OP is a timewaster for not bothering to clarify this from the supermarket....

Actually, a few years ago, I tried some anti-allergy tablets (I think it was one of the Piriton/Piriteze family) recommended by my local chemist.

I took the recommended dose with some Lucozade and was sick afterwards. Now, before anyone goes "you don't take tablets with something like Lucozade", just remember my wife is a nurse.

I asked her about this and she told me that you can take tablets with any drink (I think she meant almost any), so it was more likely that I had a reaction to one of the ingredients in the tablets.

Did I go shouting for compensation? No. I stopped using them and haven't bought that brand since. Should I be recommended it by a chemist in future, I'll just ask for an alternative recommendation because of the reaction I had before (also bearing in mind that I can't say for certain which ingredient caused it).

I have aspartame like effects from Asprin actually so I can well believe it. My GP has put me on Naproxen and Omeprazole recently and one of those is leaving me with terrible stomach cramps.
I've avoided asprin ever since and I'm working with my GP to find some medication that does suit me.

When this happens (and it does, more frequently than I'd like) I don't think "I can get a tenner from Sainsbury's here!" I make a mental note of the product and the fact that it doesn't suit me and avoid it like the plague. Seems simpler.

It might the active ingredient of the Piriton itself making you ill, rather than any additives/colourings - it disagrees with me, it makes me very jumpy and easily startled, and makes my pupils dilate, I have not had side effects like thar from any other antihistamine and I've tried 4 or 5 others.

I was filling up with fuel and having a sweet tooth, I bought a bag of fruity boiled sweet things when I paid for the petrol.

Expecting the sweets to be like a Fox's fruit sweet, these were as hard as metal, but I persevered and managed to finish off the packet during my long drive North.

After a couple of hours, I got a violent stomach pain with an 'immediate urge' to go to the toilet. Fortunately, I managed to 'contain myself' until the next services.

Without disclosing tooooo much information, I just could not get off the toilet - God knows what the other toilet attendee's in the other cubicles thought of the 'noises' emanating from my person.

I managed to walk back to my vehicle (very gingerly) and wondered what caused the gastric turbulence and as I had only eaten those sweets that day, I checked the packet.

They were diabetic sweets and had a warning on the front that they contained Aspartame and not to exceed 4 sweets in 1 hour as they may cause a 'laxative effect'.

As I ate the full packet in such a short time, it caused not so much a 'laxative effect' but more of an internal Tsunami!

A little more useful information, the reason I've been having stomach cramps from my medication is that certain brands of the drug 'Omeprazole' contain aspartame. Explains a lot!

Now on a new brand that as far as I can see contains 'sucrose' rather than 'sweetners'. This horrible substance is bloody everywhere!!
