Sainsbury's Margarita made my girlfriend sick

I believe alcohol over a certain strength does not need to indicate any ingredients but it must contain allergenic ingredients
sulphites is one of them but nothing about aspartame

do we have any right to complain and claim compensation as the label did not make it clear that a potentially posionous chemical was in the product.
While trying to be as nice as possible, you have no claim for the following reasons.
1. Ingredients don't have to be listed on certain items, if they weren't on this then I can assume this item falls under the criteria. It is your girlfriend's responsibility to make sure the drink doesn't contain anything she's sensitive to, not the other way around.
2. How the... is aspartame potentially poisonous?! I'm lactose sensitive, but that doesn't mean all milk is poisonous. What a silly thing to say.
I think your partner needs to read up on her allergy, be properly tested if she hasn't already, and employ some common sense when purchasing items with no ingredients list.0 -
Id buy her another bottle, let her drink it and see if she is ill again.
If she is tell her never to drink it again and if she isnt blame the takeaway.0 -
Did she drink the whole bottle? It's the same strength as wine. TBH, if someone came on here and said "My girlfriend drank a bottle of wine and threw up all night. Do you think she can claim compo seeing as she's clearly allergic to it?" people wouldn't take you all that seriously...."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I must be allergic to yeast - I drink 10 pints of beer, then I'm violently ill for hours on end and have a massive headache. Either that, or I have alcoholic bulimia."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

OP how do you know it wasn't the Foie Gras pate she ate?0

According to the Food Standards Agency, "products containing sweeteners such as aspartame must show the statement 'with sweetener(s)' on the label close to the main product name."

To reply to the OPs point B, you certainly have a right to complain if the item was mislabelled. You may also be able to claim compensation, as it would suggest negligence on Sainsburys part.0 -
I also have a pretty severe reaction to aspartame, usually leading to crippling stomach pains, headache and in extreme cases sickness. For this reason if there are no ingredients on the food I'm buying I simply don't buy it. Its preferable to the 12 hours of misery that would ensue from taking the chance.0
