First Dance Songs

I'm not engaged but OH and I have already picked our first dance song - Neil Diamond's 'Delirious Love': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDapIZPyOyc
Not my first choice I've got to say - that would have been Smash Mouth's version of 'I'm A Believer', as we both love it - but OH has been very insistent that he wants the Neil Diamond song and it's nice enough.
My only advice is listen to the lyrics. I used to work in a hotel that did a lot of weddings and the amount of people who picked songs with seemingly nice titles but really, really inappropriate lyrics was staggering. Think things like James Blunt's 'You're Beautiful'. *shudders* There also seemed to be stock choices of 'Amazed' by Lonestar, Shania Twain - either 'You're Still The One' or 'From This Moment' and Take That's 'Rule the World' - by all means choose those if they mean something to you, but don't just pick them because they're the obvious choice.sugarwalsh wrote: »My BIL wanted 'I got 99 problems' but my sister vetoed it. I wish they had because I really can't tell you what they actually danced to...
My sister was desperate for You're The One That I Want from Grease but my brother-in-law vetoed it. In the end they went for I Just Called To Say I Love You. My other sister had Brown Eyed Girl as they wanted something everyone could dance to as my brother-in-law hates being centre of attention. The only other one that's stuck in my head - for good reasons - is a friend who chose It Must Be Love by Madness."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
We (Read I) am insisting on True by Spandau Ballet.... Can you tell which decade I grew up in? :rotfl:
I also love "You do something to me" and would really love to have/be changing to a name which had a related song.0 -
Etta James - At Last
Well, that's what we're thinking of anyway0 -
Mirrorball or Great Expectations by Elbow, can't make up my mindwe have love enough to light the streets.0

How's about 'Move closer' if the oldies won't like the word 'sex' you can dance to a song that using 'making love' instead :rotfl:Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

We didn't have a "song" so chose something we liked off the bands playlist. We ended up with crazy little thing called love by Queen and it was brilliant, best decision ever. It's a song that's still reasonably well played so whenever I hear it I get taken back to our wedding day. It's lovely to be randomly driving somewhere with thoughts a million miles away from our day and the song comes on the radio and I'm suddenly back there reliving it. Absolutely brilliant.0

Mine too! And OH and I went to see it in the cinema last valentines day
I've actually heard our band singing it live and they sounded so amazing it just sent a shiver up my spine!!!
Can I just ask - are you all having your band sing your first dance song? Some of those songs sound quite challenging for a live band! Or are some of you having a DJ instead? x7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs

I haven't decided if I am going to have a band yet - need to settle on a date so we can book a venue first, and can't do that till my fiance's visa is approved.
Having said that, I've got my eye on this band
http://livecovers.com/
I love indie music (the more popular end rather than the obscure) and their set list includes Chasing Cars, plus lots of songs I really like.
Doesn't sound like it would be cheap to hire them.... but then I hadn't been planning on marrying (long story) and was thinking of having a big 40th birthday bash this year with a live band, so I guess I can see it as diversion of money I was planning on spending anyway.
Am thinking of popping in to hear their set on Friday in Waterloo to find out how good they are.0
