First Dance Songs

I know this has probably been discussed loads of times before but I can't seem to find anything on the most recent pages of threads, which possibly means it hasn't been discussed recently with the current posters, so I hope no one minds me starting it up :)

If you are having a first dance, what is your first dance song?

OH and I have a bit of a dilemma as 'our song' is Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon!! Don't ask, it was an album we listened to lots when we were very first dating, in those days where you spent whole weekends not leaving the house and not wearing many clothes...and Sex on Fire was the song that was playing the first time he said "I love you" to me. (not the first time I said it back, as I didn't say it then lol!)

However 'Sex on Fire' would be completely inappropriate for a first dance at our wedding! funny as that moment might be.... So for the last year or so I keep trying to play romantic songs and try to get us forging associations with them, but it's fallen a bit flat on its face as OH sees right through it lol. When I mentioned I might like Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love' as a first dance song, he replied "I know, you've been playing it at romantic moments for the last year"! Doh...

So what's yours? Was it easy to pick or are you struggling like me? :)

  • we wanted lonestar amazed but when we realised how popular it is we changed our minds we are now thinking of a tragedy (by steps) mixed with sexy and i know it (by LMFAO) with a bit of vengaboys thrown in for good measure - just something fun and crazy that we can really do a good show dance to

    Lol that sounds great!

We won't be doing any sort of dancing beyond shuffling around the floor in each other's arms...neither of us are dancers at ALL...and I like the traditional mooshy song and slow dance!

    EDIT,

Also I think a lot of relatives (including probably my parents) would raise eyebrows at having a song with 'sex' in the title. I know, I know...

Double Mummy - we all know you are going to have the Venga's at your wedding so it will have to be one of their songs!

Daisiegg - I don't think you can 'force' a romantic song. It either is or it isn't. We don't have a song which is 'ours', despite owning about 3000 cds... The band are singing 'the way you look tonight' which is a real good golden oldie.

Go with Sex on fire - it is fun. My BIL wanted 'I got 99 problems' but my sister vetoed it. I wish they had because I really can't tell you what they actually danced to...

I think the other problem with Sex on Fire is that you can't really do the 'slow, shuffly dance' to it, which is about all we'll be able to manage! I know you can't force a 'romantic' song...I just wish you could :( lol

Ours is going to be 'Right Here Waiting' by Richard Marx.

It's the song OH sang to me at karaoke just before we got together to tell me how he felt.

That's if we do actually do the 'first dance' thing, although I'm sure we will! x

PS If 'Sex on Fire' is your song I think you should go with it! You can still dance together, just a bit faster!?

  • We are having a similar problem Dasiegg. We don't have a song which is "ours". OH wants Keith Urban "Memories of Us" but I'm not in to country music and whilst the words are quite sweet and meaningful personally I would rather have Avenged Sevenfold “Warmness on the Soul” which reminds me of us more. I’m probably going to roll over and let OH have what he wants as I have made most of the decisions and TBH like Sugarwalsh said there won’t be many people who remember the song anyway.

My Aunt and Uncle have "Sex on Fire" as their song, when they got married they had a smoochy song which they danced to for a couple of minutes (can't remeber what it was), then the DJ changed it to "Sex on Fire" and the bridesmaids, best man and ushers got up and they all started bouncing around like idiots. It was great and probably the best first dance I have seen, everyone loved it (even the oldies).

Is there not a slower version? I bet someone will have done it.
