Buy something through the avios store.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

Can anyone help? We have quite a number of avios points that will expire soon if we don't earn one more point. Any ideas of the cheapest/best way to do this?
Trade in £2.50 of Tesco Clubcard vouchers.

    Shop via the Avios store.

Book a flight / hotel / car hire.

Join one of the survey sites options.
  • Could anyone answer a couple of questions please re Avios bookings to the US with Aer Lingus from Dublin.

We are hoping to book a couple of flights to New York for next year, as the taxes apparently are a lot less than BA..

Can anyone tell me how much those taxes are likely to be?
It would be two adults return in economy.

Also, is it true that I can check for reward seats by signing up for a Quantas account and, if so how accurate is the availability of aer Lingus seats shown?

Lastly, I presume I will have to ring BA executive club to actually book the flights, and can't book online? Would appreciate any help and advice.

I am sure I've read about £75 return. Not much more if you go business class either.

Don't know. Headforpoints and Flyertalk would be a good place to look.

    Phone only.

If it fits with your plans you could also consider flying to Boston and making it a 2 centre holiday, as Dublin to Boston is a shorter distance and is therefore only 25,000 avios in economy instead of 40,000.

Thanks. Yes done a bit of digging. £75 is fantastic, and it looks like about £100 in business. :)

Flights between Boston and New York cost 4,500 avios. I assume BA can add them on to the Aer Lingus booking but if not it's easy to do yourself on a separate ticket. So, for example, flying from Dublin - Boston - New York, New York - Boston (stopover) - Dublin would cost 34,000 avios.

Though personally, I'd fly in/out of Boston and then do a trip to New York on the Megabus. Roughly 4.5 hours each way and you should be able to get return tickets for the both of you for less than a fiver if you book in advance.

I dont know if a saving of 15000 Avios, flying in to Boston instead of NY justifies a 9hour round trip on Megabus.

Well as you're not the one flying, that doesn't really matter does it!

Though you aren't only saving 15,000 avios, you're getting a trip to Boston thrown in. Or if you're that adverse to buses, you can fly the whole way and still save 6,000 avios, or fly into one and out the other as the OP suggested and save 7,500.
