Peak time i.e. summer hols always hard to find flights

If you are wanting to go Transatlantic Aer Lingus is about the best for taxes.

I use Qantas to check availabilty. Just booked 3 return flights to Orlando next August, Manchester Dublin Dublin Orlando using Avios £700 are the fees.

For us miles more convenient than BA which flies from Gatwick

The taxes make Aer Lingus the obvious choice, but BA fly from Manchester as well (not directly to Orlando, but neither do Aer Lingus).

No you can't. You can book a Eurostar ticket with them, but can't upgrade.

Things just got bigger! Fill up with Shell V-Power Nitro + between the 12th and 25th June and you’ll get triple points. That’s in addition to double points, that’s an astonishing 12 points per litre on V-Power Nitro + fuels during this time – our biggest bonus this year!

• I guess this comes under the banner of 'having my cake and eating it', but, does anyone know if you obtain flights using Avios points whether you still earn points for those flights? Currently thinking of splurging my points on the 'Premium' cabin for my next long haul.

Unfortunately you don't. The relevant Avios T&C is:

C.2.5 Agency discount tickets, industry discount tickets and airline employee discount tickets are not eligible for Points. Travel taken on Rewards and other non-cash bookings are not eligible to accrue further Points. Infant fares are not eligible for Points.

Avios - T&C

If you book an upgradable seat with cash and upgrade with Avios I believe the cash element will attract Avios at the rate for the higher level booking.

Whether it's good value or not is another question!

You dont earn Avios on reward bookings, but as stated above, you will get Avios if you use Avios to upgrade a cash booking.
I.e upgrading from premium economy to Business UK to Mumbai would cost 25K Avios, but you would get aprox half that back.

You can also use them to discount a short haul booking.
