To clarify, in my experience with BA, you will receive Avios (and tier points) on the cash booking class. You won't receive the Avios (or tier points) for the upgraded class. For example, if you purchased a Club World ticket for cash, and upgraded to First with Avios, you would only receive the Avios (and tier points) for the Club World portion. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0 -

That's right. However, if you do upgrade with cash you get the full Tier Points and Avios of the higher class.
Lots of good information in post #7 of this thread on FlyerTalk: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/british-airways-executive-club/1540695-your-guide-spending-avios-2014-a.html#post221380440 -
Meh, wrong way round!
Thanks for the correction.0 -
Thanks for all the responses - I had a sneaky feeling that would be the case...0

Afternoon all,
I've been merrily spending away on my Amex and Visa cards for the past couple of years and apart from a couple of hundred quid cashback (which gets absorbed the moment it's received) I've got very little to show...
I spend circa £30k on Amex and £75k on Visa at present (work related 'claim-back' purchases) and I would like to 'enjoy' the benfits that membership of the Avios scheme offers, as I feel that rather than 'stuff', I'd like more travelling memories...which air miles can bring
So, after reading Sally's Airline Credit Card Scheme guide, I see there are several ways to earn these pesky Avios points - and it seems that due to some 'blunder', several schemes have the same name (smart move) - nothing straightforward in this world...
I will still need two 'flavours' of Credit Card; 1 x Amex and 1 x Visa/Mastercard due to current retailers acceptance of Amex. For Amex, I'm leaning toward the BA premium Plus card and am still undecided on the other card at present.
Regardless, I would hope an easy answer exists regarding opening an account for the Avios scheme, regardless of how the points are earned:
Which should be opened first, the Avios (avios.com) account or the Credit Card application?
Kind regards,
Steve0 -
Makes no difference.
If you open the Avios account first the CC company will transfer your points to the number you give them
If you open the CC account first they will create an Avios account for you.Mortgage free for 5 months :T Then got another mortgage:rotfl:0 -
Thanks Steve.0

Hi everyone,
I have just signed up for Avios today, but have already booked 2 return flights to Singapore through Celebrity X as part of a cruise package. Does anyone know if I get points for these?
Oh and Tesco are advertising 600 avios for £2.50 as an August special. But reading this thread it seems they are normally that price!
Thanks very much,

Can anyone help? We have quite a number of avios points that will expire soon if we don't earn one more point. Any ideas of the cheapest/best way to do this?0

One easy way, without any cost, would be "Rewards For Thoughts". If you register and complete one survey you'll get a 600 Avios bonus.
https://www.rewardsforthoughts.co.uk/
The Avios are posted direct to your Avios or BA account and normally it takes less than a week.
Just one small issue - The surveys all tend to have preliminary questions, before you are "accepted" for the actual survey. Sometimes it can take a few attempts to get "accepted", but it shouldn't be a big issue.
You can then always close your account when you get the 600 Avios, or continue to earn. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0
