I've always liked the idea of just using numbers, but putting a picture on the sign of you and your OH at that age; ie "us aged 1", "us aged 2"... etc. It would encourage people to walk around the room and potentially raise a few giggles!

We're only having one large table so won't be able to sue it, but I think it would work well for a larger wedding.

Thats an excellent idea!! I was just gonna use numbers, but hope you won't mind me nicking this :D plus it'll be a nice for OH's mum to be more involved

We're naming ours after trees, with a black and white picture of the tree on it (hopefully these will be correct, as I'm not big into trees but it goes with our theme). I wanted to go all out and have silk leaves in the shape of each tree's leaves on each table but getting silk leaves at all is hard enough!

I had loads of ideas for table names but OH has put his foot down and insisted that they be numbered. So they will be numbered... in Irish. :rotfl:

    (stealing MsShopper's fab idea!)

*obviously they will have both the word and the number, we do have some non-Irish speakers there too! lol

Love that idea too!! However our theme is a non traditional what we know in NI as a "mixed" marrge ;)

Originally with my OH being a rugger player we where going to name tables for each position, however who do you seat at the hooker table? :T

Ohhh - I really like that idea - if you don't mind we might use that one too!

    LOL!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hey, maybe you could have the tables in Irish and Ulster Scots for that cross-community vibe? :D

Of course! It's originally MsShopper's idea anyway :) - I was toying with numbering them in Irish a while back, but had decided against it as a few of the guests wouldn't understand Irish... but she put the number under the word! Genius :D

    Hi guys,

So sat down last night after a full on weekend of Wedding stuff with the rentals (mine that is) and the OH. We were going through names for tables but couldnt think! We're having orchids and butterflies as part of the theme with brown and gold colours. We went down the route originally of orchid or butterfly names, but they're all latin or really bizarre!

What are you calling your tables? or are you numbering? My Mum said numbering shows lack of imagination (sorry if your a numbers gal as I wanted to be)!

    British Butterfly names:

    Monarch
    Tortoisehell
    Clouded Yellow
    Purple Emperor
    Cardinal
    Fritillary
    Ringlet
    Holly Blue
    Mallow Skipper

just a few to be going on with!

But personally I think having numbers is the best way to go for a sit-down meal - easier for everyone.

As for my own wedding in 6 weeks time? Apart from a reserved table for 2 (bride & groom) the seating/standing room is a free-for all with a jolly buffet scramble for grub :D simple!

    Weddings I have been to:

    Tractor names
    Agricultural shows
rugby positions (and tables laid out like the pitch)
Places couple are going to on honeymoon
field names of brides family farm

Can you tell all my friends are farmers!?
