What are you calling your tables?

Hi guys,

So sat down last night after a full on weekend of Wedding stuff with the rentals (mine that is) and the OH. We were going through names for tables but couldnt think! We're having orchids and butterflies as part of the theme with brown and gold colours. We went down the route originally of orchid or butterfly names, but they're all latin or really bizarre!

What are you calling your tables? or are you numbering? My Mum said numbering shows lack of imagination (sorry if your a numbers gal as I wanted to be)!

I think numbering them shows class... Guess what I am doing...
Personally I don't see the point in naming them unless there is a strong reason to - Ie your hobbies, places you have visited, names on your theme.
But I like numbers best, must be all those years spent as a waitress!

I think numbering them is fine and easy to read. Went to a friends wedding last year who named tables after places they'd been on holiday but I had to roam the room to find my table and it was written in fancy curly writing and I couldn't read them from a distance. We are thinking of naming them after films (romantically appropriate of course, might have to skip the horror collection when choosing lol) as we are huge film fans but if we decide against that we'll probably just go for numbers.

I don't really get the need for everything to be imaginative and different. Yes lots of people use table numbers, but that's only because it works!
  • Ones that I've seen working in hotels and at various weddings over the year:

Local landmarks/places of interest, using postcards
Places that have meaning to the couple - this was done using old Ordnance Survey maps cut into heart shapes
Different Inuit words for snow (at a winter wedding)
Couples in the family (with their wedding pictures and a little bio as the 'signs')
    Old Hollywood movie stars
Alice in Wonderland characters (at an 'Alice' themed wedding)
    Favourite restaurants/bars/pubs
    Flower names
Different words for a colour in the colour scheme (so for red things like scarlet, crimson, ruby etc)
    Favourite film/book/TV characters
Favourite books (could also do films or TV series)
    Favourite songs

Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")
Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")

I think numbering is fine and as has already been said - easy to read. :) Sometimes things can be complicated accidently so naming tables for the sake of it can add another layer. Only think it works if it all fits together.

having said that I am having an apples and pears theme (due to venue's famous fruit garden and the fact that we are an apple and pear in body shape), so am looking to do varieties of both. Is that strange???

We had afternoon tea (rather tan a hot meal) so named our tables after different types of tea - and I made all different teapot shaped signs!

I had looked at names of butterflies (used a few in the decorations) but I agree they do sounds a bit weird on their own/out of context as table names. :)
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

My OH is a keen kitesurfer and so our tables are named after different types of wind for example: Mistral, Notus, Sirroco. Not North Easterly as I first thought he meant :rotfl:
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

No Hadley that's cool! Me and OH are into cars, his business is kind of in the car trade. I'm a reall girly girl but still into them! We did say to name them after our cars we've had, ie my new car is called Fleur (when she gets here) one at the moment Scarlett, had a Maggie etc, EXCEPT, my OH says naming a car is daft except when he got his Jeep and got him to agree it fitted the name. EXCEPT that name is Optimus Prime! Who the hell do I sit on that table! lol

  • Lots of people have butterfly themes so you should hopefully be able to get some ideals by searching this forum.

This Bride from last year had some good ideas:
