This is a nice easy to understand article about the industry hype of resolution
http://www.cnet.com/4520-7874_1-5137915-1.html
Note this report is about US tv signals not European ones.
UK ordinary TV pics currently have 100 more lines vertical resolutions than standard US tv signals.
UK = 625 US = 525 hence 100 vertical lines/pixels less, so 720p will look much better than what they are used to there.
Jump to basic HD compared to standard tv is 480 to 720 inb US, ( 50% better), whereas here it is more like 600 to 720, ( only 20% better), so less noticable here.
That is why they think 1080i is ott.ac's lovechild0 -

Without derailing into technical gibberish, thats not really the case. PAL tvs only display 576 lines, not 625 (the other is used for captions etc). You're also only comparing vertical resolution.
standard TV definition - 720x576 =414,720 total pixels
High definition (720p) - 1280x720 = 921,600 total pixels0 -

I just bought the Hanspree 32" from ebuyer (on the great advice received on this forum - thanks everyone!)
Really delighted with it for the money it was £299.99...wow!
One slight prob I am finding is a slight audio dropout on the digital scart (freeview), so far have not exerienced the problem on the other tv / dvd options....so I am working on eliminating the possibilities....has anyone else experienced this?
Anyway....a great TV for the money and has a nice range of controls etc....looks nice too! Many a Mickle makes a Muckle!0 -
