    Hi Harpyboy,

To be honest if you're not going to be using the 1080p for anything (ie you don't have a HD source such as sky HD or you're not using the TV for gaming on XBox 360 etc) then I don't personally see the point of forking out too much for it yet. I'd say focus on the things that are really important to you and if that's not one of them then don't worry if the TV doesn't have it. I've just got a new TV and decided not to bother about it as I won't be needing it for anything in the near future.

    Regards

    Michelle

  • Does anybody own the 23" Samsung LE23R71? I'm considering buying it from Richer Sounds for £349, but can't really find any reviews for it anywhere. Looked on AV forums, but its all too confusing there, so i thought i'd try here instead.
    Cheers.

    Hi Guys,

Been following the forum quite a bit as I've been searching for a 42 or 46" HD LCD for a few weeks now. A friend who works for Currys has advised either LG or Samsung? I'm not too sure if it would be worth paying for the 1080P just now - what's the general consencus? I don't want to be paying too much ie Sony and Philips. any advice would be fantastic. Cheers:money:

    CADMUS:

You may like to wait for more expert advice before taking the plunge, but IMO the 'volume' of the 'P' is completely irrelevant if you are not feeding it HD. I'm assuming you'll connect your Sky box via SCART. You'd be better off researching an LCD TV that gives a good pic on Standard Definition - which can be quite problematic, as most people who bother to post their experiences of their new LCD are gamers and High Definition-ers :(

Also, a very large screen is likely to show up flaws, I would think that 42" is too big for SD.

My friend just got an AOC 32" from Intekx, he views via Homechoice (now Tiscali) down-the-phone Standard Definition service, he's quite impressed.

Make sure in your Sky+ settings that the output is set to RGB when using scart...

    HI all :)

I'v just bought the Samsung LE37R88BD 37" HD Ready Digital LCD TV from currys, you are not able to reserve and collect in store, but my local store priced matched the webprice of £636.89 http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1370700049.1184182849@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccgdaddlhekhljmcflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&fm=11&sm=0&tm=0&sku=589389&category_oid=

    In store the 32" is £649.99 http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1370700049.1184182849@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccgdaddlhekhljmcflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&fm=11&sm=0&tm=0&sku=589389&category_oid=

It seems to have excellent reviews from all the sites i looked at.
When i set the tv up tomorrow il report back.
"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"

You can probably tell a slight difference between 1080 over 768, but only if you're feeding it an HD source. Different TVs have different ways of processing picture signals that they receive, so that a TV with 768 and good picture signal processing will look better than a TV with 1080 and bad picture signal processing.

As your feeding it a normal Sky TV source then it won't make any difference to you, but will make a difference to your bank balance. If I were you, I'd save your money and get a 768 TV. Make sure the TV you get has 3 Scarts (with RGB) sockets and a component port at least. That way if you buy a RGB cable you can get the best picture possible out of your Sky box.
