Are any of you in(or been in) a relationship with someone you really didnt fancy but it has come through friendship for example or do you need to fancy someone at some level(not an alcohol induced level!!) to start off with, thanks

  • The first time I saw my husband I thought he was the best of a bad bunch. I spent the whole day in a group of about 10 people including him but didn't talk to him. He was the friend of the groom at a wedding where I was bridesmaid. I was married to my now ex husband at the time but were in the final days of our marriage, I left him a week after the wedding.

7 weeks later, I went on a night out with my friend (the bride) her husband and his friends. I ended up chatting to best of a bad bunch man, getting a bit tipsy and had a cheeky snog with him. We found we had a lot in common but I had sworn myself off men and he had a no women with baggage rule.

However we both liked each other a lot so just carried on seeing each other for a bit of fun. It got to a point where we realised that our relationship wasn't actually as casual as we had planned. Moved in together about 18 months later, we've been together almost 10 years now.

Incidentally my friend has set up multiple couples, her 4 best friends married people she introduced them too.

Has your friend got anyone for me?! :rotfl:

OP - I've had relationships with people I didn't intially fancy and then have got to know as friends first. I do believe people can grow on you, although that said I am more of a 'need an initial spark' type of girl normally.

  • My husband!

I had known him for about 15 years before we became a couple. I hadn't ever fancied him although he said he'd fancied me for years :)

When my first marriage broke up, his relationship had just finished, we became closer friends and I suppose I got to know him better. We have been together for about 16 years now and married for nearly 12. I used to joke that we were only on the rebound. :rotfl:

    Oh I like this thread!

I met my OH at work in 2008 - we'd worked there for a while but hadn't met due to him working nights and me working days.

One day he did a day shift, I went for a smoke break and he followed.

I thought he was nice, very funny but didn't really fancy him - I had just ended an 18 month relationship and wasn't looking for another.

We chatted online, he kept doing day shifts so that he could see me at work - bless! - and a month later he came to my house for a night in, but just as friends.

Something clicked, he virtually moved in a couple of months later and we got married last year. :j

So true! If I am ever late his standard line is "I thought you had stood me up" :p

19 years later I'm so glad I gave him a second chance :D

She's run out of single friends! Between the four couples we have been together over nearly 60 years and have 7 children.
