It was a wonderful setting, so the former owner had been very lucky to have continuous gardening time there for so long. We noted that she'd been pretty forward-thinking, with relatively old thermal solar on the roof, some new solar electric on a barn and a positively ancient hydro-generator in the garden itself!

What a combination, hydro, solar thermal and solar PV!
Yesterday was a good day for renewables, the big wind turbines on the valleys ridge line to the north were turning steadily, the local smaller turbines whirling in the wind.
And the solar knocked out 21 kWh, which is as good as it gets for our system, 13kWh per day being the average this quarter.
With the decent weather (until today) you'd think everyone would be out and about but the online sales have shot up again after a lull, so its parcelling for Wales atm
RAS, FWIW you were probably right to hand pollinate, our Williams pear is setting very badly.0 -

That looks absolutely stunning! I would love to live in a location like that
Pouring with rain here today so I am glad that I got a bit of weeding done yesterday as the front of the house now looks a bit smarter.
Things are growing really well in the greenhouse, even without a few panes of glass, so there should be plenty to plant out and keep us going in a few weeks time :jTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

We could have bought a nursery less than a mile away, but it didn't come with a house....and houses in the village there aren't cheap!
The people who did buy it are still trying to get PP for an ag-tied bungalow, but all they have at present is a mobile on temporary PP. I know there's no gain without pain, but that was more than we'd accept!
Seeing a garden like that reminds one that 'blank slate' gardening, such as we're doing, will take a long time to reach such a level of maturity. OTOH, matured gardens are often indulged too much, so although it's not apparent from the photos, there's much work for a chain saw there; more than I'd want in fact!0 -
morning all:j:j
Yes Davesnave had a brill time last night, and now I am all rocked out:T:T
Thunder opened and stole the show:beer:
Whitesnake, good, but David Coverdale has cant hack it anymore voice wise...
Journey... we walked out after the second song... they were very
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and there were loads of people walking out the same time as us..
Personally it was a bad match... as you had two good balls out classic rock bands, and then Journey.. which don't have any balls to their music..Work to live= not live to work0 -
wind has picked up, and the it is starting to pick to rain...
think I might try and sort out the old small greenhouse out, and re-pot the tomato plants I bought last week.....Work to live= not live to work0 -

Rain is well and truly here now.... weather was great up until today...
Think I am going to sow some seeds this week, I know its late, but the way the weather has been, I don't think they are going to be that far behind...
think I need another cuppa:D:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
Rain hasnt quite reached us yet so the front is travelling pretty slowly and we even had some brightness this morning EDIT, it has now!
Alfie, Collect+ is hiking its prices from 5th June so low value items that dont fit into RM small parcel guidelines will not be worth listing. Still cant see that we would normally sell enough to qualify for RM business rates
We're just about parcelled out, cuppa time!0 -
Rhiwie..
I don't sell nowhere the 1000 + parcels a year, ( 23 parcels per week, based on a 45 week year) BUT this will MAKE me list and push to sell more..
sold a bundle of books, so only need to sell/send another 999 parcels:rotfl:
Could you up your listings? easier said than done I know considering you were saying there is tough competition in the auctions....to try and buy stock..
I know some people buy stuff from cheap shops an sell them on the bay...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Pete came up and spread fertilizer, as it was going to rain today. It's just started here now.
This morning the guy we are getting to complete the end wall on the barn also arrived and put up his scaffolding, so it looks like that job is going forward OK.
I'm in the polytunnel madly re-potting and pollinating my toms, as the wind is making insects a rarity again.
I will have to get my fishing gear sorted out, as Pete is asking for lessons!Apparently, his sons are pulling out trout left right & centre, but it's not one of Pete's skills. Pete has much river frontage, but he doesn't own the rights, which can change hands for tens of thousands. However, the posh folk who do, rarely, if ever, spend time on the smaller river, sooooo.....
