Alfie, anytime. Hope he is one of the ones good enough for you. You deserve it!
Still nice today, but the wound has made it cold. Finally driven in this afternoon.
It's been a good weekend, wish we had a few more bank holidays in a year.0 -

I don't sell nowhere the 1000 + parcels a year, ( 23 parcels per week, based on a 45 week year) BUT this will MAKE me list and push to sell more..
sold a bundle of books, so only need to sell/send another 999 parcels:rotfl:
Could you up your listings? easier said than done I know considering you were saying there is tough competition in the auctions....to try and buy stock..
I know some people buy stuff from cheap shops an sell them on the bay...
CTC, I reckon if we worked harder at it we could manage to hit the RM threshold, but we'd rather retain this as a profitable part time interest that underpins our independence and keeps our brains active. Although competition is tough we did well last auction and went upmarket on some lots which have since sold well.
The balance is the important thing to us, having time to garden, be with the grandchildren, have weekend breaks, take a day or two off. Neither of us want to make this a full time job, even if it seems like it at times!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
B&Q, 3 for 2... veg plants and herbaceous here are half planted. I bought 2 types of pea (Waverex & Sugar Snap), 2 types of french beans(Blue Lake & Slenderette), 1 runner bean pot (3 plants, Scarlet Emperor), 3 tomatoes of different varieties, 1 courgette, 1 pepper, 1 jalapeno. One 6 pack of delphiniums, one 6 pack of penstemons, one 6 pack of asiatic lilies. Total spend of £26 so I'm really happy :j"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0

Hello all,
Is it ok if I join in, I've been wanting a lovely little smallholding for the last 6 years, nothing big as I only want Chickens, no killing on my smallholding! I'm looking at the moment for the perfect place to buy till then I have my new allotment (got it a couple of months ago!) which I have to get up to more. Just need something to push me to be more self-sufficient/homestead-iein preparation

Chickens doesn't mean no killing, not if a self sufficient goal is your aim.
Welcome to the thread. Allotments seem to be really excellent preparation for this lifestyle!
Not much news here. Old girl is definitely going tomorrow, booked the hunt to come and collect her little body. Jojo's brood of eleven chicks are doing well. The obvious millefleur crosses have feathers on their wings now, and some silkies have the fluff tufts forming. Some still have their chick fluff.
Rain very welcome here for the garden. The grass growth is steady, not hugely great, but steady.
Finally got a fencing quote back from someone, and I liked him too, so have said yes and asked him for a start date.0 -
LIR... sorry I must have missed your post about old girl...so sad:oWork to live= not live to work0

Sorry it's tomorrow, lir.

Hello greenmess, you're welcome here.
However, I agree with lir that you won't have chickens and get away with no killing, even if you only have them for eggs.
I'm sitting here now, mulling-over the prospect of culling Rosie, one of our two Australorps who's struggling to breathe. She's been going downhill for a few weeks, and there's nothing we can do. This is the result of contracting mycoplasma when she was young. At least she's had two happy years of borrowed time since then, and I'm pleased that the people who sold her to us in that state have since closed down.
But we have to look forward, so there's a possibility that Rosie's 'little sister,' Minnie, will soon be looking after some Maran eggs.0
