Hopefully we will get some rain overnight - we really need it as had nothing serious since the snow melted. Windy right now but not as strong as with you down south - expected to increase tomorrow.

Am amazed by the apple trees - gone from bud to blossom in a very short time; first couple on the Egremont opened on 7 May which is less than a week late. The blackthorn, plum, cherry and some pears are also coming out; all very late.

Rain :( rain :( and more rain :(

I am so over the whole endless rain thing! No work done in the garden today as the soil is saturated. What I did do however was contact a heather nursery to find out what plants would suit the conditions in my front garden. I just want the area covered in something low, fast growing and low maintenance.

We got the rain in the end! Gave up in the polytunnel when I couldn't hear the radio any more.

The wind predicted was the reason I shopped yesterday. I don't fancy some of the routes I take when it's like this, especially after that big branch fell in front of me near Winkleigh.

Before the rain, I got a few irises planted by the stream. I smiled, because in the early 90s we holidayed down here and bought some water plants from a little specialist nursery at Wembworthy. They went into our pond at the last house, and now some of them are back again, only a few miles from where they started! :)

    Galium odoratum, Sweet Woodruff?

Not all over, 'cos it disappears in winter, but it copes with damp very well and pops up early. Used it in a difficult shady area in my last garden and grew stuff through it.

Here, it is coping with full sun, but I shall steal a bit soon and take it down to the stream, just in case we have a hot, dry summer.....:rotfl:

Hope it goes ok CTC. If youre up to it I think (!) viewing is until 7, but I'd give them a ring just in case

    Alf, have pmd you.

Cold here, it's nearly mid May and the veg beds still look almost bare :(. The seeds sown indoors have been a near total failure, really not sure what has gone wrong. Will have to buy young plants at the car boot/local fair.

Lots of stuff in blossom, no insects about though.

It never ceases to amaze me what people will pay for secondhand goods. I'm afraid I take a very hard nosed view as my parents had secondhand and "antiques" shops when I was growing up and they wouldn't have dreamed of paying more than a quarter or less of the items "new" price, especially considering they would then have to turn a profit on it. However, you see people paying more for something secondhand which they then have to transport, which has no warranty more than you might buy one new in a sale! Beggars belief. Rant over :D
