    Evening all:j:j

What a lovely day today, pity I was working inside today:o, think they have given it fairly good weather over the bank holiday, So fingers crossed it will be a nice day on bank holiday Monday..

Not much to report really except I have a comercial customer waiting for the next load of sausages:beer::beer: He came into work, and I wen to give him some freebie sausages, but he insisted on paying, he came back in today, and he said they were fantastic, and wanted to use them in his cooking, and sell them:D..So this give me another incentive to get the ranch sorted..

Great news about the sausages, CTC!:j Now you have to sell him the chops too! :D

You have a good butcher. The guy who does Pete's pigs is OK, but the sausages seem very bland, to my taste anyway. :(

I think I have mild sunburn, which is something I didn't expect to be saying a week or two ago. Suddenly, everything needs doing at once, so it's mow this, dig that, plant these, pot those, all day.....until it gets dark.

Sat down with the barbie this evening, listened to the blackbirds and watched the swallows swooping. It was so peaceful......

...then a Tornado came over the hill at about 1000', banked over our place and headed towards the village. Here and gone in 15 seconds. The swallows carried on as if nothing had happened! :p

thats fab news CTC. We're just getting to know some of our close neighbours in the hamlet and he was a farm manager before retiring. They're doing up their place that was derelict and have no land. He's keen to get some pigs with us: we get his skills and knowledge and he shares the care and we provide the land. What sort of pigs do you have? I'd love some Mangalitzas but it's cos I like the look of them.

Thanks I was really chuffed when he came back, I know they are nice, but each person has diff tastes

Rozee, I should imagine with all their hair, the abbotoir love them...NOT

Don't know what the meat is like with them..

If you are going to go down that road, with the neighbour, make sure something is in writing, and that he has no hold, or you have no obligation to let him use the fields etc on a continueous basis. and for any other use than the keeping of pigs..

Your bought your place because YOU wanted the goodlife...Pigs are easy to look after. and are such wonderful animals...

I cant wait for the day, when we are at the ranch, all day everyday, to be able to fully injoy them.

Pig Auction is tomorrow in Carmarthen Market, starts at 10.30am.. I did tell Ferretkeeper we were going to go an get more piggies, but we are going to wait until next month now, as we have the smallholder how in 3 weeks.

Hope everyone is ok, and making the most of this lovely weather

I am so conflicted about pigs. For one, I was raised a Muslim, two, I'm not crazy about the meat, three, think they're fascinating animals, four, dad would probably never visit (though he probably won't anyway!)

Mangolitzas are meant to be excellent eating....a bit like boar. But a premium. Maybe worth trying to find a smokery (or doing at home for self use) to make prociutti type things with them? They are high fat pork.....

The 'local 'pork here is mangoLitza but I just haven't got round to buying any yet. (Sorry auto correct doesn't't like the pig name)

Rozees, dh is a cultural Jew, who eats pork and shellfish. ;). Pork is such a diverse product. I am not totally mad opn plain old pork, (and don't like gammon at all) but a home baked ham IS new year to me, and pork crackling, and well grilled chops with beautiful apple and prune or apricot and calvados sauces. For dh its chorizo and the Italian pork products all the way.a

Edit: though the market might be hard to drum up in uk, lard as sold in Italy, as a sliced table produce or as 'pesto modenese' a sort of beaten pulp with salt and rosemary, is very good, I guess the curly coated pigs would lend them selves to provision of that.

One of those days when things got done!

Boiler serviced and repaired, parcels packed and posted, garage part cleared and trips to the tip and the scrappy, and back with a cheque. More cqs in from the auction house, rearranged the office area to open up no-go dust trap corner, and agreed to meet lawyers re potential litigation.

    Time for a cuppa :)
