I've just put shallots in my allotment
my very first plot planting. When I looked at the garlic I had to put in it had gone rotten so no garlic. I must try and get round to sowing seeds this week for the greenhouse.
Yes charity shops have gone expensive I find, altho I'm in London so maybe it's just as everything is expensive here unfortunately. Even amazon is cheaper sometimes, I really must rejoin my library. Interestingly I was looking for a couple of tops for work & found 1 in the charity shop for £12! So couldn't really afford it then popped into m&s to check out their last sale bits & got a much nicer one down to £7 from £26 so was very pleased
lucielle - sounds exciting!
Alfie- your poor duck! Hope he is ok & it hasn't been pecked
CTC - hope your vintage fair goes well0 -

i am going to see my mum for mothers day 1st ...THEN i can look at ducks dingly dangly bits....:rotfl:
i will let you know !!
re charity shops, the prices have gone up here but without sounding snobby, we get a good clientel chucking out so tends to be good brands and fashion..... but there are 2 shops that are WAY above thier station !! i dont get it sometimes that surely the aim is to make as much money as poss and highly priced "stay on the rail" items just dont shift ???? seems daft to me ... more at less will shift...:D
right im off to see my darling ma, then duck, then tip ,then a bit of planting...
p.s. im getting a lot of requests to end my kitchen bits early on the bay but iv resisted as a LOT of watchers [may regret this but hey ho...:D]0 -
No poison eaten and no more poo, we might be reaching the end of phase one of rat attack.0

Re charity shops. They are getting very pricey some of them. Last week while OH was at the dentists I spied an interesting book, but had left my wallet in the car. Went back to get it, but shop had closed, so phoned them the next day asking them to keep it for me & checking their opening hours. Went a couple of days later ( bearing in mind this is a 67 round trip) shop has notice on it back at three. Waited & waited & waited. Saw the shop assistant in a Sister shop asked about the book, she wouldn't go to the other shop to get it even though there was two of them in this shop serving - no customers in it. All she would do is moan that that she can't get vounteers. I did explain about coming all that distant GGGRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrr. She did say she hadn't found the book & didn't know which one I was talking about - the woman has a weird attitude & it's a shame. One of those religious ones - don't mean to cause offense but..............My whinge over about that little venture.
Very cold & bitter wind. Raining on & off so cowering in finishing off listing that I've dragged on.
Lucielle - Be aware of absenteeism re croft or neglect -it not being worked. The new act gives powers to the Commission that could mean a croft is 'taken back in.'0 -
No there is an occupant and until that person oasses over its hers. She has talked it over with us as that's her wishes. So a long wait (IYKWIM)

Yes - but is it your wish? Coz if it's left to you & you don't go & use it it could be taken off you, but if it's not for a while gives you time to make plans.
Had a sheep wedged into the fence - what a tussle. Tried to saw a problematic horn off but OH & I were in danger of losing a hand so had to forgo that taking advantage of her stuckness!0 -
Not sure at the mo but will just go with the flow. Had a very poductive day in the garden. Weed matting is in place a raised bed has been moved and the sleepers reused. It was lovely when the sun was out and quite chilly when it went behind the clouds.
OH has just listed a horse box on ebay so hope that shifts soon as we need the room and the dosh.

Thanks for the info re scaly leg, itsme, we'll act on it pretty soon when I can get the linseed oil..
Tonight, we have two Welsummers not 100%, though what's wrong is hard to say. One has a few walking problems anyway, so could just be having more of a sit down day, but the other one is tail-down and going hunchy. We'll be watching.....:( Nothing obvious.
Spent quite a long time researching fruit cages, but there's not much on the net about home made ones. We want to make a couple of fruit cages 22' long and 18' wide, so we really don't want to buy a posh ready-made thing!0 -

You're welcome, Dave. If it's mites, don't forget to deal with the house or they'll be straight back. Have you got a blow torch? If you carefully 'singe' the inside of the house & then wash well with disinfectant you normally get the little blighters
I don't know if it would work but I've often wondered if Build-a-balls (or a homemade equivalent) would work for a fruit cage - not as a permanent measure ..... but seasonally. In theory they should (whether one uses rigid netting or the throwover stuff) but to do one the size you want would be pushing it, I think.
However, anyone who fancies trying it on a smaller scale, I'd be interested to know how it goes.
Had sun & rain today. It's been a bit chilly both day & night.
Hope the Mums here all had a good Mothers Day. _party_0
