    I had a rubbish day :(

Tried to cut the hedge with my shiny new shears to find out they are rubbish and refused to cut the hedge, that and they are ridiculously heavy. I managed about 1m before muttering, getting grumpy and giving up.

Left my gardening gloves out in the garden the other day and they were soaking so I couldn't wear them and the weeds are too mean to pull out without gloves.

The parts of the garden that I had previously weeded and dug over are now covered in new weed growth so I feel like I am back to square one :( All the seeds I planted have either not come up or come up withered and died.

Phew I needed that huge moan!

Oooh Davesnave I will be interested to see how you get on with your fruit cage as we are planning to build one this summer for raspberries, obv on a much much smaller scale. Part of it is to stop my cat pooping in the dam patch so we looking at rigid plastic netting, just waiting for the right stuff to come up on free cycle. I'm not allowed to buy the raspberries or source them until we have sorted out the cage so I will be very interested in how you do yours. Hope your Welsummers recover.

Eit, we scared ourslf silly looking a the prices of nice super chunky curtain poles for the wreck, and have been browsing curtain fabric for different rooms.

That's very kind of you CTC, but I think those nipples only work when they are upside down, these other ones work from a vertical surface. I think they're amazing and better than any other watering system I've ever seen.
But no one else seems interested in them, so I'll shut up now :rotfl:
If they're not doing anything Lotus, I may be interested as they're small so I can hide them from my OH :rotfl:
I buy alot of books and always used to buy them from charity shops, was in one a couple of days ago, paperbacks £2........ my fav 2nd hand bookshop only sells them for a quid.
Needless to say, I don't buy books from charity shops any more. Or much else tbh, the prices have gone up massively the last few years.
My in-laws are here this weekend and I was having exactly this conversation with her about charity shops as we did a tour of them in our local town. The only decent one (i.e. reasonably priced) is the Eco Shop which sells on for ethical reasons and genuinely wants to encourage recycling, as opposed to make a profit. They have loads of things for under 50p (clothes at 30p an item) and a "Free" box. I guess once you start introducing commercial principles into the equation, ethics go out of the window.

Had a lovely Mothering Sunday with my MIL and OH. We went to the service at the village church and my son had a line to say "Mam rhwyn dy garu du" (Mam, I love you - in Welsh). So proud!

Rummer - I had one of those days & tried to list stuff but been at it all blubbery weekend as computer going as slow as a snail for some reason- probably coked it up with all those photos of my tat ....ehh....I mean my treasures. Got 101 items up but did a lot of re-lists. Just about crying with the sheer frustration of it all.
Very cold bitter wind. Ran out of gas for the cooker so made do with digging the camping stove out of the stuff - filled shed. Mr Teddy has found out he can cross the burn & chase the bantams much to their & my horror. I think I'll have to have an alias for Mr Teddy..........and probably a new harem.
Well a quick cup & then hit the scratcher me thinks.

Dave, I've often wondered if galvanised conduit would work as a decent fruit cage, I'm sure it would.

Oh,re charityshops, i have had several rants on the os forum about the prices. One in one of my nearest town was having a booksale last week, 29 to 49p for books that have lingered for 'ages'. They couldn't get over how people were buying them all of a sudden. I spent about a tenner on 29 p books.......

I also resent gifting stuff that will be over priced. I want people to get the stuff i gift, and would rather leave it at the gate with a 'any good to you? Please take' notice than have stuff worth fifty p price at 3.50 and left unbought.

Someone on os eplainedthat a cs confederation agreed terms with a business one to not undercut or the businesses would persue this thing of cs not paying business rates, as businesses felt too unsustainably undercut.

Yes, lovely here too, but I had rather a good meal last night, fell asleep and woke to find the conservatory and my toms/peppers at 4c........But they'll be OK.;)

I'm wondering about galvanised water pipe and kee clamps too LE, but DW is keener on wood. No offence to anyone else, but messing around with other stuff might be cheap, but with the winds etc here it might need doing more than once! When I say wood, I mean 3" - 4" poles. This is the spot that the tulip tree couldn't survive in...

The reason we are building two fruit cages is that if we find some stuff isn't really attacked, the second one won't happen. For example, we didn't lose much in the way of raspberries before. Redcurrants just whooshed away though....

So, we are trying to be economical....sort of. :o

Rummer, I feel for you. It might have been a bit early for some of your seeds, being where you are...:(
