Morning all!
Loads of drizzle here today but I have been up and active since 7am  Yesterday I got loads of lovely bulbs from Poundland and some bean seeds that people had raved about on here.
Sadly things here are not good atm and I am counting the days until I can properly get stuck in to the garden to take my mind off things.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Hugs Rummer.
Tis a nice day here, no rain yet! No jobs for DD1 either. Just keep trying.

I too hope things improve for you soon Rummer; you're such a cheerful influence on this thread and do much to make others feel happier. Dodgy hug:grouphug:
I'm certainly happier, relieved even, having met the guy who will soon start sorting-out our barn's little structural issues. Pete gave me his name with the words "He & his Dad work like £$&>*!!" Coming from him, that has to be good! :j
There was no "Roight, us'll get onto this dreckly" just a definite start time and an appraisal of how the work could be done most easily.
Of course,if the barn goes well, there will be plenty more here for a good carpenter & brickie, especially ones we can work alongside and labour for. We've had the finished plans though, so I may be able to post those later.
Back to seed sowing......0 -
Thank you all for being so kind. We seem to be getting an endless round of upsetting and worrying news and I am growing so very tired of it all. Nothing to do but to square my shoulders lift my chin and get on with things.
One wee glimmer of joy today though was the first of my bean seeds poking its head out of the soilit is amazing how grounding and heart warming growing things can be. This year I am going to do my best to make our garden a real sanctuary filled with colour and fragrance and hopefully a good dose of food too!
The fresias I bought have to be planted between January and June but after the last frost has passed, when roughly is that? Knowing our weather May? I am also planning on growing loads of sweet peas this year as they are so pretty and their scent is lovely. Do they root deeply or could they be grown out of something shallow as I have a plan
Dave what are you sowing, come on now tell me so I can copy :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I will have none of this sneaky seed sowingTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

I changed my mind and sneaked off to the stream for 3 hours to finish hacking down the blackthorn, or at least the last bit in the section I'm doing this year. Almost made it too, but ran out of daylight and energy.....:o
So, I've only sown some toms so far, which are romping away very well for 6 year old seeds. :j Some toms & peppers will probably go in tomorrow, but still not all of them.
I've sown some other stuff that needs stratifying outdoors, or at least in the polytunnel, but that was ages ago. Some of it is up, but other seed may not wake till next year: it's a long job sometimes.
Occasionally, things come up which I've forgotten, which is nice.Other times, I find a pot with a faded label that says something like "....r....pt.........t....m species" and I go

Ooh dear! Customer's horse? Accident with fence, or tree? Everyone here will want to know!
Main thing is that the horse has been treated & will presumably be OK eventually.0 -

You know there are kids in a class who will find anything to trip over, scrape there knees on soft grass and just are generally accident prone? That's this horse. Cannot find where she did it and tbh, there is only so much you can do if you are going to turn them out and not wrap them in cotton wool.
Sigh.
This is the grimmest time of year I think with animals. With dogs they are bored with pent up energy waiting for better weather, the animals that forgae for food or fun starting to look around the edges and reach over and under things.....
It's wonderful to see things start to come alive certainly, but it feels the hardest bit to get through of the year I think.0 -
We have a cat who is very like that LIR clumsy and accident prone and he costs us a small fortune, thank goodness for insuranceTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0
