When clearing large areas of scrub, and burning the brash, it almost becomes an primeval art form
Even when you get a good firebed going, if you dont put the branches on the right way, with side branches cut off if necessary, the fire starts to die back.
All the new age feelings, sophistication and 21st century civilsation take second stage to a good bonfire!!
And a few jacket potatoes in the ashes, superb.
Bit envious of you Dave0 -

I know!
I try to get a good firebed, pop the lighter stuff over the top to be heating up, and then feed trimmed stems through a hole in the side somewhere.
Eventually, the whole lot goes "Whoosh!"
Then we start again.
That's the theory!0 -
what is it with blokes and fires:rotfl:
back in the day we had NICE weather, and we started clearing the land at the ranch, hubby and his mate would build the fire soooooooooooooooooooooo high, and have big grins on their faces..
I think the next few days of dry weather, and things start drying out up there, hubby will be rushing to have a fire:rotfl:
munching through a packet of chocolate brownies which were a grand sum of 2p:eek::DWork to live= not live to work0 -
Fires here can be epic. I hate that flame thrower, but it does clear bramble very quickly, if heart stoppingly.0

Not too sure what we'll get weather wise. I'll just open the curtains and see. New chooks seem to have settled in, though our 2 original girls are still keeping to themselves.
Got to collect DD2 from her friends later this morning, whilst I'm doing that DD1 is going round the village with her CV to see if she can get a Saturday job.
DS1 is off to get his hair cut and then its the Young Farmers Ball tonight. He drove to college this week, his first time on the motorway. My nerves were shot till he called to say he'd arrived.
I felt quite sorry for him on Tuesday as he had to take his car in to have its exhaust looked at. Before he got it there he popped his tyre on a pothole. Then to add to his woes I got a phone call from his old insurers (they only insure provisional drivers) to say he wouldn't get any NCD because he hadn't been with them for 10 months. So he had to ring his new insurers and tell them and fork out another £400!!
My mum went to try a couple of days in respite care. It didn't go well, she had to be collected as she was being aggressive. She, however, was very pleased as she got to go home.
I'm toying with the idea of going to Skye to help my friend lamb and probably taking my youngest DD with me. I need to check that friend is ok with it.
Took 2 days off work to go through our ebay shop. We've checked 162 listings, would like to get it up to 200. Have slightly lost the will to live but its a job done for 12 months.
Biccys and a beverage if you managed to read this far.
