Hope things improve for you soon, Rummer. It really is true that it never rains but it pours, isn't it? :(

I am married to the masculine homosapien form of your walking disaster horse, LIR.
DH has always got a chunk missing somewhere.:rotfl:
At the moment his arm is bandaged up (had to go to the Minor Injury Unit last week).
We've lived her for more than 25 years & there are still times when he forgets to duck where necessary. I truly don't know how he does it :D

    Hi Rummer, stay strong.

Itsme, DH looks a pretty capable guy to me. But its a man thing to believe that we're invulnerable, it sometimes takes a missing chunk or two to convince otherwise :D

Well its cold and tippling down, not fit for man or beast. Haven't started seed sowing yet but will do this week. Will be looking to mix the plots with veg and flowers this year to lift the soul as well as fill the belly.

CTC, if I thought prices were high at Andrew's two weeks back yesterday was just mad . Place totally rammed, one item that sold for £53.60 I can get delivered for £15 on Ebay, madness . Spent only a quarter of what I intended, all the more annoying that I had passed by our local sale in favour of this one. Ah well, hopefully its swings and roundabouts
  • Rhiwie, might be worth you putting things back into Andrew's auction, might get more money than ebay:rotfl::rotfl:

If you want to have a rummage though the bric-a-brac you are more than welcome..

been thinking of going through it, and taking out things that might sell in rummage boxes at Andrew's

Got a local afternoon vintage fair this afternoon... in a pub:D:beer:, but my head is pounding,,, so TBH if i could have got out of it i would have...well at least its only 4 hours, not all day...

been thinking of going through it, and taking out things that might sell in rummage boxes at Andrew's

CTC, its a bit like doing a quick sort of clothes going down the line and picking out a selection of stuff that might sell on Ebay or at auction. Or the same with books. The more you do it the better you get at spotting the gems!

But you have to make yourself the time to do it, which may be difficult given all your other commitments.

And yes, some of our stuff goes back into auctions if we think thats the best place to sell, but after two auctions of not buying much our stock totals haven't recovered. Still, we've just had a good 3 months selling so a lean month
    is overdue.

Loads of surface water on the roads during a quick and abortive trip to Cardiff. At least its not snow
  • If anyone is interested (lurkers, too) :)

Guess what ........ wet & bl**dy miserable here for a change ..... not :rotfl: Trying to work out if we're due snow tomorrow.
  • thats the problem Rhiwie..

We put things to one side etc and then before we know it there sandbags full of stuff:eek::rotfl:

I used to sell books on amazon, but as you guessed it, TIME...

We are 'stream'lining' things etc over the next few weeks

OK Alfie has posted that we cut the weekend short so I will go a little further with details.

First off, ALFIE IS AMAZING! She is the most inspirational, determined, resourceful, capable woman I have met in my entire life. She's wonderfully caring and immensely generous, as well as being a hard-headed realist. She does everything at 90mph and gets it all done with no help from anyone. :A

I couldn't keep up with her :rotfl:

My rose-tinted "I can be a smallholder" glasses went in the bin. It was a huge wake-up call for me. Yes, I could sit in my house and think "I can deal with mud and cold and wet, 365 days a year, to look after all the animals" but the reality clobbered me yesterday.

Once I arrived, we talked non-stop. I toasted in front of the fire Friday evening after a lovely meal and lots of mugs of tea then went to bed. I wore thermals all night. And normal clothes on top. I woke up a few times in the night (too much tea) and took a torch down to the bathroom as the genny was off. No big deal, I walk round my own house with no lights on if I'm up in the night. It doesn't scare me and it saves power, as well as not waking me up fully.

I woke up as soon as it was light yesterday, feeling a bit rough. I still have good days and bad days in my continued recovery from this flu thing. Alfie wasn't up and nor was her son, so no power. No problem, I'll lay here and drowse, I thought. And I did, a bit. But it was cold and drizzling outside, it was pretty cold inside, and I just got colder and colder. I got up and pootled about a bit, but didn't want to disturb anyone so kept to my room.

Alfie got up quite late because she'd not been feeling well, the twinging she mentioned in her post, and soon Mabel came looking for her breakfast because it was late. When the gate went and the dogs all fired up I thought it was Alfie's sister - who we were expecting - but this MASSIVE sow came into the garden wondering why she hadn't been fed. :rotfl::rotfl:She's a REALLY impressive sight! She took quite a bit of persuasion to go back to her field, even with her bucket of breakfast, and she had a good old grumble about it on the way!

Then Alfie's sister and brother-in-law turned up and we chatted with them for a couple of hours, during which time it snowed briefly. After that it was time for a bit of lunch, then we went out and about - horse feeding, animal feed buying and finally food shopping.

Over the course of the afternoon I was getting more and more concerned about Alfie's twinges, especially when we were in the supermarket because it was going pretty much non-stop and she said it was like being tasered. I also was feeling pretty unwell by this time, dizzy and a bit nauseous, so after a bit of discussion we agreed that I would come home. We'd been comparing notes and we did wonder if she was starting to come down with a flu-like thing as well as the nerve twinges, but as she's posted today I'm guessing things haven't got any worse. I still don't feel quite right today.

    Things which I have learned:
    1) Alfie is lovely
    2) I want to visit her again later in the year and see everything I didn't see this time round if she'll have me
    3) 3 weeks later and I'm still not properly over this flu
    4) I am a wuss when it comes to being cold :rotfl:
    5) Mains leccy for me is an essential
    6) I need to restrict my plans to what I'm capable of RIGHT NOW while I'm still not properly better, so I don't overreach myself. Animals ALWAYS need tending, no matter the weather or how you feel. I did know this, but I didn't think my limitations were quite so severe. This flu thing has taught me what I can and can't do.

Alfie, I hope things have eased off a bit for you pain-wise today *hugs*. Take your fella up on the two weeks/9 or 10 days away if you can, if it's another cr*p summer you'll love having some sunshine!

Now to see whether we're going to have snow, it's 2C outside right now..

Edited to add... it's now snowing, three minutes after I finished my post.
