CTC, a belated "thank you" for your post the other day replying to my whiney "I can't stop thinking about moving" post :o I know you waited a long time to get your ranch & it sounds like you did everything you possibly could to achieve your daydream :D
Btw, have you had your blood pressure checked re. the headaches??

alfie, hope you're going to get checked out re. the 'taser' twinges, they sound painful.

alex, I loved the post about your visit to alfies, definitely gave me food for thought. Hope you are feeling better today.

A friend lost one of his chooks to a fox (he thinks) at the weekend :( Friend lives in a town & is completely surrounded by neighbours/high fences, no alleyways etc. so I was surprised that a fox would know there were chooks in his garden. Do they find them by smell/noise??

Chilly day here but at least it's dry.

Same way birds find feeders, or. Come to that, the way we find things in our areas. But wildlife is more keen to succeed. All senses alert at all times for indication of prey or predator. It's a stressful life!

Oh...! It's 6C here and not too bad at all, but I've been inside all day, confined to sorting out important stuff on the 'puter and fending off a friend, who wanted us to share our big garden with someone we don't even know, and their kids, presumably.

Now I feel guilty:o, but I don't think I should really. I mean, it's a big area, but it's not as if we have anywhere we could hide.....:(

Nothing done here today other than look after three sniffly GDs while DD1 works.

The first thing you lose with young children in the house is the ability to concentrate...so trying to list is an impossiblity :o. 5 items posted, but things still flat on sales front despite a certain persons best efforts ;)

I've enough compost left over from last year to get started sowing this week for windowsill germination and then out to the GH. Not trying to do anything much outside, everywhere is still too wet and its 2C here and feeling chill. But the bulbs are coming up and a spell of warmer weather should see an early Spring brightness in the garden.

    Chooks love plums :D

I ant to plant something not aggressive, scented and not spikey around new back door. It's not a huge area, and a small clematis seems sensible.

It's tempting at this time of year to get every thing 'winter flowering' but not sure it's the wisest choice here. I could plant something summer flowering and something winter flowering of course, but not sure what it would be, because it would need to be not a clematis for puning purposes!

Damp & ruddy cold here. My friend came across & said it was 2 degrees on the top - brrrrr - but no snow :j

They say that a fox's sense of smell is even keener than a dog's, pink poppy. Unfortunately, once they've found a handy source of food (like poultry) they'll keep coming back :(

We have summer & winter jasmine interplanted, LIR. Both varieties need a good bit of pruning & training but it means that there's usually always something other than bare stalks climbing up the walls or trellises.
On another wall we have a very pretty climbing hydrangea but that, of course, is bare stalks at this time of year.

Forgot to wish everyone with aches, pains, snuffles & bad heads a speedy recovery.

Thanks Poppy! Back to work tomorrow but I'm not fully recovered yet. I've not been this ill at any time in my entire adult life.

It made me realise I can manage chickens and other poultry in small numbers no matter how bad I feel, but not anything larger or more time-consuming. I'm sure I'll be able to find someone from whom I can buy well-reared pork etc in exchange for cold hard cash. And it also means if I don't need any acreage it should be easier and cheaper to find our next house... if this one ever sells!

Argggh! The Good Life? The Wet Life, more like!

Hope everyone is okay. How I've missed you all :D

Half Term in the caravan does my head in. I can't believe that there's so little time, I'm constantly chasing my tail. What will it be like when the house build starts?

On that front, we have finally got planning permission with draft preliminary drawings for our detailed plans. It feels like we've waited forever. The builders have all been checked out, we "just" need to get the QS to draw up the Bill of Quantities now and we can tender... We meet with him on Thursday.

The children's holidays are getting in the way of progress. It is sooooo SLOW!!!!

I have some catching up to do... But the kids need putting to bed first....
