Its February tomorrow, so in theory only a few more weeks to spring..

Alfie I know its an EXTREME long shot BUT...I am looking for one of these ( or something very similar)

Rhiwy, that poor little bird in the cage! I'm far too soft hearted to want a plate like that! :o But the other plates are very lovely. Can't decide which I like the best, I think the blue and white wins by a whisker. Mainly because I love wrens. We had one nesting here at new home when we first bought it, but it was nesting in the loft! So once new roof etc on its place went. We have seen a wren occasionally last summer, but it was so wet we hardly spent time in the garden, so I'm hoping the wrens are still around but we just didn't spot them - they are very secretive little birds after all!

Very tempted by your Doulton Deco Minden hors d'oevres tray - we have half a dozen of the matching plates (Oxfam I think)! And I'm very fond of the pattern. But we're still bringing in piles of stuff from old home so not sure I can persuade OH it would be a useful item to have! :rotfl:

Last year I sold a 19th century bird cage of almost identical design, made in Pennsylvania to take a canary down the coal mines. The cage was handmade, the water pot fired crudely out of local clay. And what I love about the plate is the simplicity of design, such a contrast to the usual over the top Victoriana.

We enjoy having beautiful objects with us for a while, sometimes for not long enough though as everything we buy is there to be sold :(.

I can absolutely believe you had one, and that you gave it away.

You are one of the most generous and kindest souls I have ever met.

I told dh that your friend wanted to see you secure and we both agreed its a good thing. While I know you never like to presume, you give SO much and with such good spirit. You are an incredibly special person and I feel richer for k.nowing you. I know your friend must love you very, very dearly.

If not yours I think she should get something that gives her/ you forest rights so that mabel can wander where she wants to some of the time. ( she'd only get about your immeadiate area probably....she could become even more legendary).

Thanks Rhiwy, that's really interesting about the bird cage. But how sad for the poor caged birds! I agree the plate is interesting, it's just the subject matter I find a bit upsetting. :o The other plates are gorgeous, and as you say so different to most Victoriana.

My DD1 would love you! :rotfl: She wants me to get rid of everything, but I'm a hoarder. ;) Though am considering getting shot of some of my mother's jewellery (the stuff I will never ever wear I hate the look of it so much - I find the mix of opals (old fashioned white ones not the more modern brighter coloured) and rubies in pendant and earrings particularly icky) so I can have new bifocals!

You might want to keep some stuff longer - some things can be investment, especially if you can make a collection of similar. My mother used to buy boxes of china, often made back the cost in same auction room and managed to add another piece to her collection - she loved Crown Derby. I prefer the older Derby, she did have a cup and saucer of sunflower pattern that I love.

Sorry, wittering away again as usual!

    oh the joys of youth...

my son has just informed me he has 5 "dates" between now and when he goes abroad [15th[... oh says i ,same girl ? NO ,all diff says he ...
i asked where he'd met them and he regailed one story that happened the other night but resolved today...;)
apparently he got chatting to a young lady ,but she left pub before he asked for her number, through chatting ,he knew a bit about her work etc... SO today the fire engine pulled up outside the shop [hairdressers] and he jumped out, went in, asked for her by name, and left a card with HIS number on and asked for a date....
he then grinned , got back on the fire engine ,blue lights flashed and a quick zip on the siren...and drove off...:rotfl::rotfl:

well i know hes my son but who could resist a fit fireman doing that !!
    it worked, she rang him....;)
    well done lad.......:D:D
