DS1 came home frozen, apparently they've got lambs!!! So he's been fetching them in all day.
Been snowing off and on all day, luckily OH has Morris the Mazada, aka 4 wheel drive beastie, so he has got us home.
Spent yesterday getting Vanessa Volvos wheel arch mended and called in at Ikea to get some bits for the recently decorated bathroom.
Boys are beating tomorrow if its still on, rather them than me.
I've been given some hens and bantams, was supposed to pick them up on Sunday but given it a snow check till the next weekend, will need the trailer to get the coops she's giving us.

I wish! It comes across in container loads and goes directly to the supermarket depots. We very rarely see any unless there has been a major breakage and labels are damaged, but at those times there are bargains to be had. Mind you, the duty we have to pay on them is utterly outrageous! A penny or two for a bottle of wine, and 1.98 in duty, or something like that :rotfl:"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -

Ds1 is 18 in March and he works on a farm. Ds2 rears the turkeys. DD1 has hopefully got her lambing job from last year, she may stay over, we'll have to see what happens.

I'd rather we paid tax on booze than on thiongs like fruit and veg (particularly in season and home grown fruit and veg). Its a choice. Albeit a choice I choose to make (hiccup) often enough.0 -
Alex - sorry about the carpet - how annoying for you. Could you put something ( a rug) over it?
Hi there Molly - welcome aboard - they're a friendly lot here.
Very cold wind here, but gorgeously dry - everything is frozen solid & no water coming out of our tap again, but plenty in the burn!0 -
morning all:j
no more snow here,
with the news talking about food waste around the world etc, I re-read my wartime farm booklet ( got it for free )
http://www.open.edu/openlearn/whats-on/tv/order-your-free-wartime-farm-booklet
Here is what they say per person had on rations in 1945
Bacon/Ham..........4oz
MEAT 1s 2d ( 1 shilling and 2 pence in pre-decimalisation currency)The meat allowance was given as a monetry allowance rather than by weight. This would equate to approx 540g
SUGAR...8oz
PRESERVES...2lb marmalade, or 1lb preserve, or 1lb sugar
LOOSE TEA...2oz tea bags were unknown until 1950's
CHEESE 2oz Vegetarians were allowed an extra 3oz
BUTTER 2oz
MARGARINE 4oz
LARD 2oz
SWEETS 3oz
EGGS 1 egg per week or 1 packet of egg powder ( makes 12 'eggs' per month)
TINNED AND DRIED FOOD an allocation of 24 points for tinned and dried food to cover a 4 week period.
Not to sure what the bread situation was, everyone was growing there own, if they had room had chickens, and villages used to have a village pig that they used to share will killed.
How things have changed....I am sure people who lived during the wars would be horrifed at the amount of waste we produce...
I think with money getting tighter and tighter people will slowly get the message,Work to live= not live to work0 -
CTC - I have read quite a bit about war time rations and food production and I find it fascinating. A number of the gardening books I use were written to guide families during the war in how to make the most from their garden and they are very practical.
Things here are going to get very tough soon so I am going to have to make everything in my life work that bit harder, me included
LIR It sounds to me as if your girl is living out her time exactly the way she wants to, she sounds quite the independent lady.
Molly Hello and welcome, it is always nice to see new faces on here.
Alex Shame about the carpet. My OH did something similar to our new carpet and then trod it through the house :rotfl:
We have had no sign of snow until about 5mins ago when a a really really light fall started and I doubt it will get heavy enough to settle.
Today I have lost my inner bounce and would love to just escape to somewhere sunny and wonderful.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
