Pink poppy our choille fire is in celebration of our own day dreamer choille being able to see the sun (it disappears from view where she is for these darkest months). I am sure a match or a candle is sufficient.

And thanks to who ever reminded me that in a stunning lack of gardening prowess my raspberry canes are still standing. ( they were fruiting up until a few weeks before Christmas). They are for the snip.

Oh, no wonder I hadn't heard of Choille Day before, thanks lir!! :o:rotfl:

Heavy snow here now (we're on the East coast), the garden looks beautiful but I don't much fancy the school run later.

rhiw, the rhubarb looks fab, how is it supposed to look in mid-January?? Rhubarb is on my list of 'wants' when we finally get our day-dream place.

I've a few spare crowns here you're welcome to have!

It should normally be dormant at this time of year, not sure what harm a few heavy frosts/prolonged freeze will do.

And choille day is a reminder that, though the worst of winter may yet be to come, daylight hours are increasing steadily :)

Rhiwfield, would it be worth banking it up, the rhubarb, to insulate?

I feel absolutely rubbish and should probably be in bed but today I've been productive.

Two builders booked in to look at their work later this week.

Lengths of wood ordered from the local timber merchants to make three raised 4ft beds for the kids to start some growing

Wood stain ordered from the same (Creoscote producers say only use on the outside, Dave, althought I'm presuming okay if, as you suggested, you leave it for a while). I'm going to paint the house in pretty colours :)

Davesnave, what are ocas?? I'm presuming they're vegetables & you grew them yourself.

In some parts of the world they're called 'yams,' but that's confusing I think, because they're not like the big tropical yams.

    http://www.vegetables.co.nz/select_a_vegetable/yams.php

Yes I grew them. I'll grow some more, because this year wasn't really a fair test, and my DW likes them. I am not so impressed myself, but I have yacon to try for my weird root vegetable this year. :D

It's been a reasonable day here, rather wasted by going to see the architect, who took the further changes with a sort of fixed grin. "Is this it, this time?" he asked. :o

He knows full well that it's better and cheaper to change our minds now, than do it half way through the work. ;)

I am not into pretty colours :p, so I want the same colour outside and in to make the job easy. I use Creocote on both sides and it's not a problem.

    See here:

I've got a huge drum of proper creosote too, but that's reserved for barn poles with woodworm etc! :o:o
