I like pretty colours, but use them outside too, as plain colours are cheaper for the insides.

God, will it ever stop raining? It's well frozen here, our troughs are icey, but rain not snow falls.

The lawnmower is back from servicing and it's a pain because after last week's reprieve I could have mown a lawn to test it out.

Rhiwfield, would it be worth banking it up, the rhubarb, to insulate?

LIR, I thought about upturning an old dustbin over one clump to force/protect but with 6 clumps I'll just let them take their chances. Cant see them being killed off, just knocked back.

Most of the pretty colours are water based, whereas Creocote is spirit derived, so there may be a bit of a problem where the Creocote meets the pretty stuff, or bleeds out over it through cracks, knot holes etc.

Still, if Creocote doesn't appeal, I've heard Coca Cola or similar is effective against red mite, though for how long isn't clear. :)

Perhaps it rots their teeth and they can't bite the hens....:rotfl:

This is the season to lift & divide rhubarb and/or cover them to force so I think you'd have to be unlucky to lose them, rhiw.
In fact, I wonder if the permanent damp might not do more damage to rhubarb than cold.

Sorry to hear you are feeling unwell Rozee hopefully you will shake it off quickly.

I think if I had chickens I would be painting the outside of their house in pretty colours too :o

No snow here but it is very cold and since it has been raining I think there will be quite a bit of ice on the roads tomorrow :(

Thank you so much for the offer of rhubarb crowns, rhiw, if the offer is still open in 3-4 years time I may well take you up on it!! :D

Dave, ocas & now yacon?! Another one I will have to google ;) How do you come across them?? I've obviously lived a very sheltered (carrots & potatoes) type of life.

The heavy snow here earlier didn't hang around but we've had more tonight. Another one dreading the icy conditions tomorrow.

i am at the mo trying to devise a way for mabel to feed herself. i want to fill a hanging covered bucket/container so that if she pulls a rope [with attached donut;)] it will empty contents of bucket [her breakfast] then if i need a lie in, i can put food there night before....:D:D
