The Gannats would drive you mad on the island, but if a few enterprising folks got together could make a go of it. The problem would be if you fell out as living on an island is not easy at all. I lived on a isolated peninsula that had boat access & it's problematic even getting food in at certain times. Also difficult living with others in the middle of no where unless you are super super easy going.0

I rarely watch TV. Like never. So that was unusual for me. But I then got sucked into watching Gypsy Blood which was disturbing to say the least.0

choille, I think i would have to live there on my own with hubby, The older I am getting the worse I have got with peeps.. Even though I am a people person.. there are so many d!cks out there..
VERY cold this morning, hard frost too, which to TBH I am so glad for, as its been a mild winter, we need this to kill off some of the bugs etc, the only concern i have is that the ground was sooooooooooooooooooo wet before the frost.
Got meeting this morning the the footpath people.. requested i seen the person i have been speaking to on the phone, not the woman i have been seeing...there are a few things that we need to do/request, will also show them the state of the footpath, due to all the rain, which is 'their' responsibility, not mine, just to let them know, that i am not a green newbie, and know that they need to upkeep it not me..
will make sure hubby is busy this afternoon, chopping up pallets for the few days ahead:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
I knew there was a colony of birds on Ailsa Craig but didn't know what they were ~ I should fit right in as I'm a bit of a Gannet myself!!
Lol at the thought of a load of binoculars peering over from the West Coast!! :rotfl:
I'll have to see if Restoration Man is on catch-up, sounds like my kind of programme & it's too cold & miserable to be in the garden today anyway.
Happy Friday, daydreamers'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
I saw some of the Restoration Man programme, but I wasn't personally inspired. I can understand people wanting to preserve buildings from the past like that, but they went through a lot to gain quite a small and probably inefficient home.
It was clearly their passion, but as in so many things, that passion has a cost.....but it was one they were prepared to pay, so good luck to them.0 -
I can guarantee you that, where most of you may be in love with the idea of living on an island, the majority would hate it in practice.
Everything choille says is right plus ....
Everything you buy will cost much more to get to you.
If you're ill it's a nightmare. If you're lucky a boat or helicopter can pick you up ...... unless the weather is foul & then you're on your own.
Anyone professing to want to be really eco-friendly would soon be shown to be more mouth than trousers. If we were serious about changing the way we live we'd all have traded our vehicles in. The amount of fuel used just getting things to you & you to & fro from an island would soon put you among the higher gas-guzzlers unless you want to be total hermits living off guana :rotfl:0 -
Nexts weeks Restoration Man is my local village.

just come back from meeting the footpath bloke alot nicer than the woman, and he was brilliant in what we want... so all i need to do is email him with 'the problem' and he can pass it straight away... and it so happens his guys were there too, so they will fit the new kissing agte and put our gate posts up as well:T:T:T
and if of the 'ramblers' moan we have moved their right of way by about 2 foot, then tuff,
the grey clouds are starting to come over, so will see if we do get snow tomorrow...
ITSME... even though i would love the idea of living on an island... as choille and yourself have said, it is totally impractical these days, with the standard of living we are used to. ok I supose if money is no object, and you had your own helicopter:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
I liked what they did on Restoration Man, they seemed from the filming to have a glass of wine in their hand as much as a chisel or plane! But the quality of their work was lovely and no sign of skimped or bodged jobs.
But I'd have been the philistine who would have wanted conservation double glazing, nor would I have entertained the encircling water feature.
But I'm less romantic (and also less practical with my hands!) than they were so any effort of mine would not have been worth filming
Island living? No way!
Put 5 BINs on last night, 3 sold already, pitiful stock levels so need to get into the nooks and crannies to sort out more listings before the next auction buys. Post Office must love us0 -
