Alfie, I went through a town in Dorset I used to live near today and noticed the pub name would give you a laugh. I shall try and remember to email it to you soon.
When we went out it was drying up, and I was hoping I might turn the horses out for an hour tonit, came back.....end of our road submerged again. No chance of turn out here. I left the little chickens in all day....whipch is so rare.0 -

now this is totally 'pie in the sky':D sinario.
a couple get laid off/ not working, so claiming some sort of non-job related benefits. so they can not work, gain extra income etc..
they have land they work etc, so instead of 'selling' fruit/veg flowers etc, they barter, so lets say a cabbage= a bag of sugar etc
would the benefits people class this as 'selling' extra income etc? ( told you it was pie in the sky.lol)
Stuff that is bartered counts as income for tax purposes, so presumably, benefits agencies would see them in the same light.
We've declared the 'income' we get in logs and pork, and even the vegetables and eggs we've had for personal consumption
whilst running a business here. It's a business which has made quite a useful loss. Most smallholdings do, and HMRC accepts that it takes years to reach profitability.
But the set of accounts we're doing now will be our last. So far as Mr HMRC is concerned, we're another casualty of the recession. From now on, if he wants to chase us for the odd few bob for the eggs, pork & logs he'll have to come knocking....
If we start the nursery up again....er...we'll reconsider.
Another shorty here.:p I'm also shrinking, which is no fun, as nothing fits any more and it creates an optical illusion, making me look fat.0 -
Your weather sounds really scary, choille.
Glad you are OK and bearing-up, in spite of everything. Hot toddy in order, I'd say.0 -

Hey give me my extra inch! :rotfl:I'll lose it soon enough as I reach my fifties (8 years to go) as my mum is now about 4' 10 - she used to be 5 feet when she was my age, but she's now nearly 70 and still shrinking as far as I can tell"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -
It seems although I am shrinking from my original 5'10" that I've still got a head start (literally) on most of you as far as keeping my nose above water goes :rotfl:
Just as well because the sharp showers keep coming.
The water is still running down the lane & there are mini waterfalls coming out of the 'hedges' from the fields.
I'm just hoping the springs ease back before it turns really cold. If not, it will be a sheet of ice.
I guess I better top up the oil again just in case. :mad:0 -
Things some peeps will do for an extra inch..........ok I'll get me coat.
