Heading west on the M4 at 7:30 am was interesting, heavy rain and squalls

But coming back at 1pm was a doddle.

Lots of standing water around though, definitely not gardening weather!

It's OK here now, with even a bit of sunshine. :D

Earlier, I was looking for 'indoorish' things to do, but failed, because all my tools were in various locations outside, like the poly and the barn. By the time I'd assembled them all for a ten minute job in the conservatory, I was very wet. :(

Still, the downpours are telling me things, like if the blue perforated pipe was working, water would be leaking from it. The land is never going to get wetter than this! So, I have a redundant blue pipe to re-lay, and I won't need to buy any. :)

I hate to tempt fate, but the dogs have been very quiet ever since I went a bit bonkers with the bill hook back in November. :o I wonder if we're making progress, or if it's just a change in their master's working pattern? I've had some extra info on why he might not want to be seen....er...working. ;) It's not something that bothers me. Indeed, he can have all his green cover back, and more, if we continue to enjoy peace like this. :A

Really awful gales last night. The chimney came apart & the van filled with reek. Fortunately OH managed to do a on the spot make do & mend on it.

Some really lovely hand made glasses came off the shelf & smashed. Teenage chickens house upside down this morning, but they are all okay.

    It's just stopped raining.

CTC - don't lime where you plan to grow tatties.

I, too have horrendous bracken problem & really could do with some magic on it as I spend hours trying to cut it, pull it out - It's a real bad blight here. Although it is an indicator of very good soil!

stopped raining here, and it looks quite bright, but i wouldnt go as far to say the sun is out:rotfl::rotfl:

Just made a cawl ( lamb stew) nice to have some 'normal' food:A

now this is totally 'pie in the sky':D sinario.

a couple get laid off/ not working, so claiming some sort of non-job related benefits. so they can not work, gain extra income etc..

they have land they work etc, so instead of 'selling' fruit/veg flowers etc, they barter, so lets say a cabbage= a bag of sugar etc
would the benefits people class this as 'selling' extra income etc? ( told you it was pie in the sky.lol)

as you can see this time off work, and not being able to do much because of the wet weather is driving me stir crazy:rotfl:

right off to make an apple crumble now

EDIT..... thank goodness you and mor choille are ok... must have been really scary..

thanks for the heads up about liming and potatoes...

as Davesnave said it was a carp year for alot of peeps last year, after 'zapping' the weeds, and then adding humus will the compost stuff you can get for free for the council yard be ok, mixed with well rotte down horse/stable manure?

I'm trying very hard to feel satisfaction at your last sentence, choille ............ nope, not working :rotfl:
We used to spend several days a week, every week from March to September cutting it by hand. Which, after about 5 years made a difference. Just can't keep that sort of thing up anymore unfortunately.

I'm sorry to hear of all the damage. Take care with the chimney. You don't want Carbon Monoxide problems :(

Glad the chickens were OK. Ours often (but not always) survived being thrown around but most of them were killed when the wind picked up their house, they escaped but then chose the open greenhouse as an alternative roost. It was open invitation to the fox :( Next morning it looked like I'd been potting on using flesh & feathers _pale_

It's been another dark, dull & damp day here. And so it goes on. :(

Just realised that according to that weather page I linked to anyone under 5'3" would officially be submerged under this years' rainfall in that valley.

Well that would be me sunk then:rotfl:

Which reminds me. Don't lime & use fertiliser. Leave months (& I do mean months - maybe even a year) between doing the two.

:rotfl: OK I'm shrinking 5'10" but I live near the top of a hill ;)
I see the average rainfall for The Chains on top of Exmoor is 70 inches. Bet it's a darned sight more this year. I'm, thankfully, not on The Chains either. :D
