I've found this online which looks interesting - particularly the live update page.
It says they use a LaCrosse WS2300 :
That's swish!
Me, I look out the back door to see if I can see Dartmoor....
You know the rest!
CTC, I'd see how acidic the areas you want to plant are and go from there. If they are very acid then lime first, but if not, go for getting the soil texture right by adding rotted organic matter. Only super-boost with extra fertilizer if it proves really necessary, as it all costs money. If the land has been fallow for a few years, it may not need a major input.
Where did all the chicken poo go that the place must've produced, or was that so long ago it's irrelevant?0 -

Oh & completely OT but .....
Anyone else noticed that the fatal crashes on the A30 (Christmas Eve), M6 (Christmas Day) & A47 (yesterday) all involved a Ford Focus?
Very common cars, so more chance of this coincidence, I suppose. People do seem to like them.
I sat in my daughter's and felt a bit claustrophobic, so my potential diesel car list then went:
[STRIKE]Ford Focus estate[/STRIKE]
Vauxhall Zafira
Nissan Almera Tino
I bought a Zafira, but I can't help thinking it's what Barbie would have bought if she'd moved to the country in middle age.:o It's very nice having a potential extra row of seats for the grandchildren, but we don't have any, and would we really want to put them there if we did?0 -
the battery hen business stopped in the 80's.. the sheds ( which were built on breeze block stilts) were just left to rot, but by all accounts they had some scrapies in to take the metal caging etc, and they left the rest, which became over grown and trees growing in the middle of it etc, was also used to hide/through their rubbish into:mad::mad:
with alot of the stuff died back, we can see we have broken the back of it, so if we had some dry days/weekends we could finish it.
there is a long strip of concrete, which maybe was the base for the original sheds, which rather than try and take it up, we might has well use it, as it would be ideal for building breeze block dog kennels with runs, but for chickens ( so their coops will be concrete, and their outdoor runs will be grass/earth)
similar to the style of the pics in this forum thread

cant sleep the wind is howling outsideWork to live= not live to work0 -
what a night the weather was really rough
still raining, but at least the wind has gone down a bit..
I keep thinking of that comedy sketch with the foreign weather forcaster, saying 'scorchio' but with someone in a fisherman's yellow waterproofs and the yellow hat just standing there saying nothing.....:rotfl:
going to have another cuppa, then got to go outside in my waterproofs, alot of the fruit/veg last night has shrink wrap around them etc, so i have to stand ouside behind the car, taking the plastic off ..
and then go and get some more straw...Work to live= not live to work0 -

Nice! I had a quick look - at the bottom I see it says "powered by Cumulus Realtime". I use the less-swish ordinary Cumulus software which does regular frequent updates. A WS2300 isn't all that expensive - about £120 - but I don't have any personal experience of one. Right now my lack of working rain gauge is getting on my nerves
This having no time off over Christmas except the bank holidays themselves is a bummer. Older son doesn't go back to work until 2nd Jan whereas I've already done two days in the office since Boxing Day. Methinks I need a change of industry... If the house hasn't sold by July I'll look for another job!
In case I don't pop up again before (we all know I only tend to chip in if I have something relevant or useful to say :rotfl: ), have a good New Year everyone!"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -
Good morning :Dthe weather here is drizzly but not too bad.
Temptation arrived yesterday in the form of the first gardening catalogues of the year :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Even though I clearly have enough seeds to get me through the year I have been oohing and ahhing over lots of interesting and gorgeous thingsWhat I need to do is put them straight into the recycling.
When is the best time to build and fill our raised beds, should we be doing it now or waiting to the spring?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
morning peeps
sounds like everyone is itching to get going on the land....:D
i must admit and hold my hand up to not knowing/caring what plant does what and what my soil is like
i just plonk it in and it seems to grow...
as most of my garden plants are rescue ones its "do or die" ...:D
the only plants i BUY are usually roses from the NF show and thats usually only cos they look so spectacular there that its more temptation than need
i have no colour theme i just get it cos i like it....
my surprise is seeing flowers come up and me having to stop and think "now where did that come from ? "
i borrow/nick seeds as i go and just chuck em out of my pockets anywhere...:D
so i wont get the award for gardener of the year...:rotfl::rotfl:
and thats why i never add/comment/suggest re seeds or plants....COS I DONT KNOW !!:D:D0 -
