He has to be careful in case of frost, or close to it, though if itsme's long range forecast is accurate, we shall have little of that in the next month or so. I shall be doing a bit of concreting, but I don't have to give me a guarantee!
I must make some chutney too, but DD1's young man has brought us so many Indian condiments, I'll not be motivated until they're all gone.0 -
Only got 11 things listed tonight. Must try harder tomorrow. We have a really bad forecast for overnight, but it's so bright outside I'm going for a wee dander up the track to see if the Northern Lights are switched on tonight!
It's supposed to then go really mild but really gusty....again.0 -
wow choille I really do envy you being able to see the northern lights, must be amazing to watch:beer::beer:
hope the weather wasnt too bad for you last night.
hubby and eldest are on job and finish today, so I have told them to call into the agri store to price up some gates for the new pig paddocks...
watched restoration man last night, ooo to have money:o:o next week its someone doing an old delapidated church up i think its up in the highlands???
they have given bad weather here again today..
I am sure WHEN:p we get our first warmish, DRY, sunny spring day we will all go bananas:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: stroll on that day!!!!!!Work to live= not live to work0 -
Choille, 11 listings is fine for a nights work, I'm generally happy to list 10 a day.
CTC, the restoration I found a bit boring. Big budget job, well managed, bland end result. But a welcome break from the festive telly!
Someone posted on here about sowing onions on 1st Jan. Just wonder whether its worthwhile sowing them individually () in toilet roll inners. What variety might make that worthwhile?0 -
ype hubby and I thought it was bland too, heard so much about the programme, that we wanted to watch it, so maybe we could pick some ideas up, see the pitfalls, how they got around certain blips etc... lets face it he had a 650k budget JUST for the building work:eek::eek::eek::eek: dont think that was the interior work etc.
will have to remember about it next week, or even get one of the boys to put a series reminder thing on it
Just come in from leaving chickens etc out... it is not looking good out there now:o:o:o
got to get more straw today for piggies and chooksWork to live= not live to work0 -
FWIW on Restoration Man some of the endings aren't the happy ones that you usually get on Grand Designs. Often the restoration is way behind schedule, over budget, never completed and in one episode the wife of the restorer died from cancer near the end and George had tears streaming down his face.0

so its showing normal everyday stresses etc of a renovation project, which is great as its grounded and realistic, sadly not nice about the lady who died, but it happens..
going on a wellie hunt today... even though i have a pair of wellies i dont fell comfortable in them, plus i dont think its going to be long before they split, last time that happened i was at the bulldog bash, and they had to be gaffa taped.:rotfl:
what a sight:D but at least me feet were dry in the squelshy mudWork to live= not live to work0 -

That was the forecast for here, Dave. Yours is slightly different.
New Years Eve & NY Night you could be down to 2 or 3 degrees. It then warms up for a few days before the nights start falling below freezing again. At the moment we only have one night under 0.
I don't think the temperature will be as much of a problem for you as the wet. Everything will have to be covered up &, even then, may wash away if water gets to it.
CTC - Even without the risk of freezing, only about 2ft of stonework can be done at a time or you run the risk of it collapsing under the weight of what goes on top.
It's a slow, & therefore fairly expensive (by comparison to blockwork) process but worth it visually in the long run.
For various reasons we have often used both methods - blockworking inside existing stone &, for new build, building in block & then stone facing. It has the benefit of forming a cavity (warmth) &, where buildings are set into hillsides, allows the walls to be tanked against damp. We have also been able to set chimneys 'within' the walls so that they aren't stuck out into the room.0 -
The frogs have started to arrive & do their version of Paul McCartney's Chorus. It won't be long before the ponds are full of spawn here ......... as long as it doesn't get washed away.
Unfortunately they also tend to spawn in every leat & water-filled channel which normally (I'm not making bets on it this year) completely dry out.
I end up roaming round from leat to pond. & gulley to pond, transferring spawn in a bucket :rotfl:
Toads have much more sense. It's only a very few who don't spawn in the actual ponds. Sometimes I think it's just the ones who get caught short who do it
Oh & completely OT but .....
Anyone else noticed that the fatal crashes on the A30 (Christmas Eve), M6 (Christmas Day) & A47 (yesterday) all involved a Ford Focus?0
