    itsme....i think its BLIND FAITH.

that it MAY be a good festive event. for the majority it probably is and its something people can enjoy when the walls are falling elsewhere.

    a diversion :D

i would never take away or deny those that see it as such :D
  • For those that really enjoy Christmas it's very special & nobody would wish it any different, alfie.
I was talking for (what seems to be the majority) those who for lots of various reasons dislike or even dread Christmas. Nobody makes anyone spend too much, eat too much, drink too much, spend time with people they don't want to (other than poor kids who are forced to go everywhere but Christmas tends to be different for them :) )
If I didn;t live in the middle of nowhere I'd probably get more satisfaction from spending the day with the elderly or homeless (not good with illness :o )

And if you have young children, or grandchildren, who have that lovely fresh-faced mix of naivety, wonder and joy, that truly makes it worth the effort :)

MY BEST CHRISTMAS'S WERE WITH MY SON WHEN HE WAS LITTLE.....:D it is def a time for children, and i think thats the magic ingredient.

i had little money but always scoured boot sales/friends etc and he never cared that it was "preloved"....

p.s. looks like the thunder and lightening hit dorset...fires and damage....very sad loss of livestock and buildings

Possibly. Yes, Christmas is for kids. What happens when the kids have grown, though?
Between us we have 4 grandkids (in my case all 'step'). We just made the decision not to spend Christmases with any of them. That way there's no pressure put on them to feel they have to visit the parents/grandparents at Christmas or any other time come to that.
Whatever time in the year they turn up we know it's because they want to. We both remember the "Oh G*d. We've got to spend all day on our best behaviour" ...... & tht was when we were in our 30s :rotfl::rotfl:

DH is out doing his rounds of "Lord of all I survey"
(Recently subtitled The Poseidon Adventure 2 - Can worms swim?" ;) )

He's back having unblocked a stream .......... "Look out those below!"
Other than that & widespread sogginess the largest puddle is at the point where all the water courses join together (or try to). Still just too much coming in from all directions to go out in the one direction it should. That's not going to improve until the springs ease back.

Just seen on TV that we can now expect the squirrels to eat all our bulbs. :( I guess, that's logical, though, given the lack of anything else edible for them.

Screw Fix on-line are having a sale.
  • its just over 12 weeks to Easter:D( easter eggs will be in the shops within a week lol)

so I am now aiming to start doing some structual work to the ranch, meaning getting a stonemason in to start/do one pine end wall from start to finish... (it will be the wall with the dodgy chimnley)

    SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

will need to really knuckle down now with ebay and getting money in/saving etc

We going to get another piggy paddock or 2 done within the next few weeks, so we can seriously start rearing/selling pigs. especially now that we have a source of very cheap fruit and veg, which is the clincher of trying to make some sort of small profit from the piggies..

Right, I've found the end of the blue pipe where it disappears into the soakaway. It says '100m,' but of course they could have cut it and used other bits elsewhere.

I still don't get why the drain had to go uphill near the soakaway. They definitely put a rock under it to achieve that!

I have taken my open trench under the uphill pipe and away from the barn. I don't think water will go into the barn now, so that's a temporary fix. There's no way I will be sorting all this out properly until we get some dryish weather.

    Easter then! :rotfl:
