Only thing I can think of (for the uphill section) was to slow the flow, Dave.
(OK now I'm sounding like a song by Alexis Korner :rotfl:
That'll pick out those of us of a certain age :D)
Fingers crossed it's done the trick for now, Dave.
It wouldn't be worth doing the work until it's dry but take loads of photos while it's wet. They'll give you a permanent record of where the water collects & runs.0 -
Wow you have all been busy today!
Thank you for all the comments on clothing. I seem to take the LIR approach to garden clothing and spend the summer in dresses and plimsoles. It was more winter wear that I will need to invest in as up until now I have been like Rhiw and a fair weather gardener but his year I am going to try harder
No investment in seeds needed this year as last year I did nothing so all my seeds are still waiting for me. Potatoes, garlic and shallots were bought with vouchers so I can spend my pennies on wood fro raised beds and compost :jTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
I've just been very reckless & booked three nights in a travel lodge for next week in Inverness. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh a bath & a bed with no cats sitting on your neck/head or waking you up at 3.30am for food or cuddles.
£15 @ night in their sale! Not the way to start a frugal New Year but a good way to get out of this metal box for three days.0 -

Great idea, choille. :j
Some quality you time can never be a bad thing.
I'd considered doing something similar to enable me to get into civilisation for a while but I'll put it off until the flood situation is well & truly over ...... if it ever is _pale_ Can't leave the poor old b*gger to slither around in the dark without [STRIKE]direction[/STRIKE] help0 -
Choille, go for it, great idea!
Rummer, fair weather gardener? Generally I reckon you do much more harm than good by gardening in wet weather.
Well, I'll be qualifying for a Darwin award soon. Decided to make stock with the turkey crown and stabbed a finger with the turkey when I was breaking it up for the pan!. Just spent 10 mins getting out the bone splinter, run out of antiseptic so its the red wine immersion for the finger

I'm just so evil & selfish............
Rhiwfield I do hope the immersion is internal - works faster that way!0 -

Yes, very true. Even walking on very wet lawns/grass is not good. Having said that we've had 2 ponies roaming all over ours for weeks now so we look forward to a plethora of weeds & totally !!!! mowing :rotfl:
Ouch!! It's not fun when lunch starts hitting back after 24 hours delay. I'm with Choille. Boot the bird & swallow the vino. :cool:0 -
cool choille:beer::beer::beer: sometimes you need to get away, to keep your sanity:p make sure you take some lovely bubble bath, some nice wine and a good book to read...
rhiwie, dont waste the wine on the outside, get it down your neck, use the cheap salt and water wash for your finger:D
just made red onion chutney, so the house smells of vinegar:eek:, not bottling this lot, going to use it over the next few days as a relish... just want to see if i need to tweak the next lotWork to live= not live to work0 -
That's a well-timed move, choille, and an excellent deal too by the sound of it.
I guess after New Year things will go quiet for the hotels etc.
Rhiwie, I too recommend internal administration of antiseptic alcohol, but are you sure wine is strong enough? I'd play safe and go whisky myself, just to make sure.
I hope you have more success than I've had getting a small builder, CTC. The barn work was discussed months ago, but nothing's happened, except that I've now decided we'll do the double doors and the internal partitioning ourselves. Considering we seem to be working out the drainage matters too, there won't be much left! :rotfl:
Gosh, there's only just over a week until we're due to seal up the access into our old nursery garden, sold earlier in the year. That will be another milestone. The money came in handy anyway, what with a wedding, a new old car and architect's fees to pay (twice!:o)0 -
Well, we ran out of spuds for dinner, but I remembered a now dead tattie haulm poking out of the compost heap, so we had a feast of new tatties ( a mix of red roosters, apple pink fir & summat else ) mmmmmm, with our venison that came off the hill. So dinner didn't have many 'food miles' as they say.............smugly.
CTC - red onion relish.....de lish!0
