Free listing on the bay 'til 1st Jan. So that'll keep me occupied if it's going to be foul outside.

Thanks, that is really helpful. It's been in a heated conservatory at the nursery I understand (to get them into early flower for Christmas gifts I guess) so ATM it's in our kitchen. I am thinking the terrace outside of there under the loggia is the best place for it short term, sheltered by the house but not hot housed.

teaching granny ....eggs blah blah ;) but remember to keep away from fire heat... and slowly aclimatise it to go out, your utility near the window later on ?

Many people get depressed at Christmas, CTC, especially if the alcohol has been flowing and they're the kind who go the wrong way when they've had too much. Most of us have said/done things we've later regretted when emotionally charged up like that. :o

The 'ideal Christmas' as portrayed on TV & films is way off the mark for many, who then look at the one they're having and feel short-changed. Also, it's a sad fact that being thrown together for a few days is too long for some family relationships! :rotfl:

Here, we just aim at having a quiet time together, with no huge expectations present-wise or as to what we'll do. These days we don't see much of the kids, so just having them here (one's gone already!) is enough.

But it's awful when someone sends a cry for help. One of our friends and neighbours did this about 5 years ago, though by the time we knew, the police had been called. She didn't go through with it, but it was a signal that something serious was wrong, and it's stayed wrong, despite huge support from friends, health professionals, social services etc. (We moved away!:o)

Sometimes, no amount of external patching-up can alter things if someone's broken on the inside. The fix has to come from within. :)
  • such wise and true words Dave...

it is so true about the bloody hype about christmas, and the tv is full of over sweet american style christmas films and they end up having the perfect christmas...

when in reality ( in our house anyway) I panic about what i have/have not bought the boys, christmas day they open their pressies, and basically thats it, crimbo over with..apart from the sweets and treats, its just like another day..( well maybe a sunday, when we are all in together)

This year as there wasnt that many pressies to wrap, i bought nice tom smith wrapping paper from wyevale, an i made the boys open the bigger pressies carefully so i could keep the paper for next year:D:rotfl:

I havent sent a crimbo card in years,

I can remember when the boys were small, there was a play resource centre near us, where they would have donations of things, and there were huge piles of end of line crimbo paper, so i bought a huge amount for 50p.. it lasted for years, it was only when hubby and the boys said they were piddled off with the same christmas paper, i actually went out and bought some different ones:rotfl:

Rummer Friends of our used to plant his onion seeds on boxing day...( he did have a greenhouse)

that cuppa didnt touch the sides, think i better put the kettle back on:p

Didnt have your thunderclap last night though the lights were flickering, torrential rain and very strong winds.

I think the whole crimbo razzamataz builds up expectations that it will be the saccharine sweet day of US films. In reality the pressure of pressies, food, drink and being nice to people means the reality is often very different. Which can exacerbate health problems

We've really enjoyed our extended crimbo this year, very little hassle, lots of family friendship, and almost certainly because it was timeshifted and when the real crimbo came all the pressure was off.

I used to go fishing on Boxing Day from late teenager onwards. My parents soon saw it was a 'tradition,' so they weren't surprised if I did it, come rain or snow.

I like fishing, but the truth was it got me out of the house. I have never been very good at sitting indoors being nice to people, especially when they have the remote!:rotfl:

Looks like I might have to eat my words there, for a while at least.:o It's blowing another hoolie and slashing down.

    Still, the chooks await....:(
