My first Siamese lived till I went to uni saw me back the first summer then when I set off the second year died. we were the same age. I was heartbroken, Siamese claw and scream there way in to your heart.
My two now are 8 I think. They were instead of engagement ring for me and dh. I onlyha
F joke when I say I expect them to bring me home venison one day, they are awsome hunters.
One of the ferals has some snow shoe or Siamese or something, she has shoes and points, but doesn't have oriental features in the least. Apparantly it's in it's teens, phenominal for a feral.0 -
Fat cat was dumped in a skip & we've had him 17 years. He was thought to be about 3 when we gave him a home. Skinny cat was step son's & we've had him 17 years & a bit - he's about 18 years & now stone deaf & gone really skinny at the back - kidneys?
Thanks for the offer of the anti biotics CTC but the one's we need are for chest/nasal infections & not tablets, but you should hang on to them as they cost money off vets.
Cats have always been in my life & usually long lived too. Tabbies are incredibly intelligent & fat cat follows me when I go about - well doesn't so much now. Almost like a dog.
Cats go away to die, curl up somewhere safe as in the wild they'd be attacked & eaten so they feel vulnerable I suppose.0 -

Well hello all you daydreamers. DH is not back from celebrating the Winter Solstice/Mayan Calendar ‘re-boot’ at the Stones (we’re only 12 miles from Stonehenge) so a quiet few moments for me to update you all. For anyone not interested I suggest you move on now as this is likely to be a long post!
House: Still living in our grotty council house with the huge garden in a tiny village and backing onto fields. It’s not my idea of a country cottage but it’s cheap rent and it’s been home for 14 years so it’ll do for now. DH decided to open the fireplace in the living-room two weeks ago so we can have an open fire for Christmas. We’ve bought a Victorian fireplace (the cast iron with tiles type) from eb*y and it’s now sat in the hallway waiting to be fitted. Considering I’ve been waiting for work to start on the Rayburn I bought 18 months ago, I won’t hold my breath for the fire either!
Allotment: Didn’t really touch it this year at all, just strimmed the weeds, picked the raspberries and did little else. The lady on the next plot said she’s spent tons of money on seeds, plants, seed potatoes etc as well as almost every weekend working on the plot and had very little in return because of the bad weather. I felt less guilty, but it’s easy to get out of the habit of going so really must get ourselves into gear for this year.
Self-sufficiency: We had to dispatch one of the chickens earlier in the year as she’d been laying shell-less eggs for about 6 months after a year of lovely eggs. I had to put the head before the heart and explain to the grandchildren she wasn’t a pet but a egg factory that had stopped working! Had a decent crop from the two young apple trees and also did tons of foraging so the pantry is full. No other crops this year – see above.
Work & Business: Still working 3 days a week at the horrible IFAs office. Still hating it!!! Sadly it’s a necessary evil until DH gets some permanent work, but luckily he has been doing contract work for a few months so we are up to date with bills and even have a bit to cover Christmas and the building of the fireplace.
My business has its ups and downs; I was very busy in the early summer so moved the sewing room from the boxroom into the biggest bedroom – then no more orders :(I’ve been pottering about with a few alterations and repairs but have decided to pull out all the stops after Christmas and really concentrate on growing the business so I can give up work completely.
Family: Running around looking after/delivering/collecting grandchildren seems to take up a lot of my time and I find it increasingly difficult to say “no” when asked. After a very rocky year when I thought my marriage was over (one of the reasons I wasn't posting - caused deep depression for a long time...), DH and I are more settled. We’ve called an uneasy truce and are more comfortable in each other’s company. Shame about the ‘lost’ year, but after 26 years I hope we can move on to a bright future.
I think I’ve rattled on long enough and I’m sure I’ve missed loads out. I will try to post as well as read, but my life seems pretty boring compared to most of you. I can be found on the DFW Small things thread on most days (is that where you’ve been stalking me Dave??) and if I go missing for months again someone can always send me a prod by PM:):)

So good to hear from you again Stitchy and Choille :j sounds as if you have both had a few ups and downs over the last couple of months, I hope things become a bit more settled for you both.
I am chewing over using my tesco points to get T&M vouchers so that I can get my potatoes and shallots for free this year. Either that or I will wait until the £1 shops have them in and get them through there. Oh decisions, decisions :rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Wow, the crocus delivery has already been made.0

Hi Stitchy nice to hear from you.
Hope things are brighter for 2013. Open fires are really lovely ahhhhhhhh & Rayburns too. I think we have sourced one for our house. An old skyblue one that needs some work doing on it.
Hello Rummer - My onion sets from the pound shop were really good this year. We've loads of onions stored in the shed. I think they do get good stuff in. Had some real bargains with lovely bulbs from them.
Woke with a kicked in the face feeling & managed to get an emergency appointment. I have a funny wisdom tooth that is not through properly so a hospital visit for that but when that'll be dentist can't say.......So I'm gonna be a barrel of laughs......not.0 -
Hi Alfie - you'll have to rest the hip as that way it'll heal quicker.0

I love your Terry Pratchett quote stitchy:cool:, but there's always a place for dreams, even if most things must have foundations in solid practicality to succeed long term.
And it's good to have your update, even if you've had some tough times in the past year or so. Growing a business isn't easy when there is no capital for investment or advertising, and/or too little time, but if I were you I'd hang on to the larger room so long as an upturn in sales seems possible.
Yes, DFW is where I found out you were posting and although I don't normally go there myself, I think I 'get' it. Like some people here, I'm almost congenitally tight and get a real buzz from it, but as my DW isn't quite on the same page, it's not something I want to make a big deal about. 'Compromise' comes to mind, and we'd both claim to be doing that! :rotfl:0
