  • I personally don't have much of a problem with wind turbines, but overhead power lines on the big pylons scare me :rotfl:I can hear them fizzing if I'm too close and it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I'm not in favour of nuclear power either.

Well we are now only a few weeks away from going on the market. I've listed a couple of things on ebay today (but they're collection only so I won't bore you with them) and I've been doing some sorting and chucking out of stuff after work most of this week. However, work is a four letter word at the moment as I'm in logistics and we're having to deal with the strikes and protests in Spain. 99 percent of the cargo I handle has to come through Bilbao, and it's just not getting through. It's immensely frustrating and I've got to breaking point with it, yet there's nothing I can do.Sigh.

Davesnave, if you do decide to sell up can you please let me know which one yours is so we don't buy it! I'm intolerant of nagging noises like dogs barking. Normal country noises including c0ckerels are fine but here we're subjected to sirens most nights as someone calls out the paramedics or police and we're near the major routes to all over the borough :( Single skin brick walls don't keep that sort of noise out when it's 50 yards away.

Keep warm and cheerful, my friends! Life's too damn short for a lot of the crap we put up with in our time here. Song for today is Keith Urban - Better Life :D

Hmmm Alex, not sure if Davesnave is into Keith Urban today, I think that Tusk might fit in better :(

    Oh blimey, rhiw.
Stevie Nicks still looks pretty good for her age (mid-60s now) but there's nothing like reminding us of the relentless march of time :rotfl:
I had to look Keith Urban up :o Yea, yea, I know. Old lady's out of touch & outta time :rotfl:

Surely the most obvious choice would be:

But if we're going all Christine McVie & Fleetwood Mac, then this is more appropriate to my era. Saw her in this incarnation a few times.

Perfect is excellent :T. Reminds me of Mayall and Laurel Canyon Blues.

But the Clash didnt have the barking dog chorus of Tusk :D

Alf, does this mean the pigeon is imprinted on you? Maybe you just have to imitate the wild and stop giving it food/shelter.

    Davesnave...
You did say early on this place wouldnt have been your first/ideal choice, and even though you say you like the place now, maybe in the back of your mind you still feel the same as before, and mr Dog is basically putting the tin hat on things... ( I might be 'barking':p up the wrong tree though )

"Barking up the wrong tree!" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I think any new smallholder/ country-dweller has quite a bit of adapting to do, but there's also the 'bonding with your land' bit that people rarely mention.

I've viewed smallholdings where I just felt nothing towards the land at all, and others where I've drooled! Like the biggest fish, the drooling ones got away.... :(

This one was in-between. It took quite a while to learn it and appreciate it, probably because it lacked a water feature of any size, but also because it was so messed-up. Now it's not so scary, I can see and enjoy the things that were there all the time, like the oak trees. :)

There was also the weather. The first two years were so windy, we began to think it would always be like that. This past year, though the weather's been poo, has still been much calmer. Making a (flower) garden has helped too.

But there were other things about being here, which I can't go into on a public board. I was nearby as a young adult and I really didn't want to return. Will PM the rest....

Saw Mayall too a number of times. Always a different band!

Just before I stopped teaching, I was chatting with an 8 year old, who told me he was learning the guitar at home.

"Ah," says I, "not the easiest instrument for someone as young as you," meaning he was small in relation to his guitar.

"No," he replied, but I've got a brilliant teacher, who was once quite famous. He's called John Mayall, but I don't suppose you've heard of him."

Out of the mouths of babes etc...:rotfl:

Don't worry, I promise I won't sell it to you. I won't sell it to anyone if I can avoid it. :)

Ironically, DW and I have just completed a new plan for the bungalow, which is the best yet. Once again, it seems we've employed a professional and then gone our own sweet way....We probably drive the architect nuts, but he's lucky, because all he needs to do now is make a 'pretty' version. :D
