You really wouldn't want to be coming around here then :rotfl: A car only just fits. You'd find yourselves irreversibly wedged & climbing out through the roof. :rotfl:
If we aren't snowed or frozen in we may be able to get across to meet up in Exeter but, obviously, that would be a last minute thing.0 -
Busy day today. Phoned the landlady of the bungalow next door re the septic tank last night, knowing that she could pull more strings than I can.
Lo and behold, Mr Drain Man was here at 10am.....though what he found wasn't quite so pleasing.:( True, next door's entry pipe was partly blocked and their tank didn't look very lively, but it was our inlet that was running fast & continuously.....:o There then followed lots of lifting drain covers and operating taps till we established where everything was coming from. Nothing weird with our pipes, though.
Then we spotted ground water was forcing its way into an inspection chamber under a pipe entry. It was hard to see, but it explained the continuous flow of clear water. There'sot much we can do about that in the short term, but it will be sorted when we do the extension. Having dug a foundation inspection pit near there, I know its a very wet area and the water table will be above the pipe run with all the rain we've had.:(
However, I'm still going to dig in the field to check we haven't driven a fencing stake through the pipe! When I can dig.....0 -

Or we could meet up in a place that's roughly equidistant from all of us....
[STRIKE]Dulverton?[/STRIKE]
and not too far off the beaten track...
Bampton?
Actually, now I think of it, Chulmleigh is roughly half way between where you two will be......:D:D:D:D0 -
Beautiful pup LIR - feel broody for one, but not just now.
Been relisting stuff & will get on it again tomorrow. Had a late day due to filling it with catch up stuff.
Weather is easing slightly - stopped raining after the mega rains. Water gushing off mountains in torrents.
Big military ex on here. Helicopters & warships up the Loch - quite noisy with low flying jets screaming over head at times. Frightens us all especially the chicks. Big boys playing with big toys.
Deer still to be heard rutting & coming over the hill into the sheeps' apportionment. Will have to bring them down soon.....if I can get up there!
Venison defrosting for tomorrow - Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm0 -
Bl00dy freezing here, first 'proper' frost of the year:eek:
and at £8 - £9 a bag of coal I think its going to be a hard financial year for heating... Lucky we do have wood around the place, but its not going to last, and the trees/wood we have been cutting down this year will be no good until next winter..Havent paid for wood before ( except the odd bag of kindling when we were using only coal)..Think I might phone round for old pallets etc on monday, not ideal, but they are free...
Alfie.. thinking about you this weekend... hope all goes well with life changing decisions...:)Work to live= not live to work0 -
Just on freezing here, but that will change in the next half hour....:)
Yes, all the best with your decision, alfie, although I expect like all the big ones, it was 90% made some time ago.
Yesterday, we made a big decision by getting a builder to look at the barn with a view to sort out its shortcomings. We had water in there last Friday via the back wall, but the most serious problem is in the poles at the far end, which are rotting badly, and the general lack of weatherproofing. Basically, it needs a big set of double doors, which we have, and a wall extended to ridge height to stop drizzly rain/snow being driven in. We can do the wall extension with heavy duty sterling board, and guess what the previous owners fixed around the walls of the stables.....:D
So, yesterday we spent most of the time moving and tidying stuff, so that we could get at and remove the sterling board. Now all we need is some heavy duty carcassing and four telegraph poles....Why do most of the UK's telegraph poles seem to reside in Nottinghamshire? Luckily, I know a man who knows about poles, and he has an articulated lorry, or two....:)
Hmm logs. Already used quite a few.Another job I did yesterday was move all the bits of tree in the far woodshed under the part of the roof that we've done. Some are quite big for an inexperienced logger like me, but they all look good to cut up now. Hopefully, we'll get the other half of the roof sorted today.....:)

Oh, in case anyone needs cheering up. It's a store somewhere in Germany. A far cry from the days when I was yelled-at for crossing a totally empty street in Mainz when the red man was lit!

 Beginning to wish we had rats, lir! He's lurvely!:)
He is!
Someone in our nearby swanky market town had a terrier that obviously got loose a couple of times about 2 months back. Dont think it found any rats but the owners of some (now late) guinea pigs were most definitely not amused, and complained bitterly on the local web forum!!
Minus 1C here at 6:30am, cars frozen. Went to local boot to buy but v little worthwhile that dealers hadnt already nabbed.
Bit the bullet and recognised that I cant clear the garden pre winter. So got a couple of guys in for two Saturdays... not cheapBut after one Sat things so much better.
