Oh Alfie and Lir, sorry to hear your news both of you! Hugs from Liverpool! Will be leaving on Wed so may not be able to keep up as not sure if will be able to keep phone charged. But will be thinking of you both even though may not be able to read and/or post. Good luck to both of you with ops and scans!0

Now Alf, this is obviously total coincidence, but some of my recent auction buys are very interesting in light of current events.
Bought some spelter figures and one has a damaged finger (Ok , I'm reaching here)
But on Wednesday bought some old chemists stuff.
For future events I can let you have some sealed 1953 catgut sutures ( ready with needle) and an ear wax syringe in case you didnt hear me first time!
Vintage hypodermics for essential pain relief come as extra, or I can let you have an anaesthetic for standby.
If you are (and of course you aren't) a hyponchondriac I have lots of medicine labels so you can put your own dosage on bottles of choice, including one marked poison.
And I have this thing, which I suspect may be a vintage ointment applicator for ladies, but please correct me if I'm wrong
So please look after yourself0 -

Now this is not a hook!!!!
One is La Lattiere (milkmaid) by L&F Moreau. She's carrying a basket with eggs. Very nice. There's another one with an arm glued back on!! and one with shoulder damage by Ferrand c 1880. Then there's one that just may be a bronze but the jury's out.
Was going to post for Itsme but didnt quite get round to it.0 -

Itsme noticedLir, your wait doesnt sound at all acceptable, nor does Alf's, but I'm not sure overall that things are getting worse
No, they've been pretty awful for years in my experience.my friend is a nurse and she has said " you think its bad now ,this is just the start of whats to come"...
too many suits...
BUT i still think we are lucky compared to other countries where if you cant pay you dont get treatment...
I'm not so sure, alfie.
Most countries have some form of insurance schemes whereby they reclaim costs. Over here people have been so anti people 'going private' (if you go private for this then you can't use NHS for that, sort of thing) that it's helped to strangle the system.
I do agree that there are far too many "suits".
A return to the full-on old Matron system might help.
A friend whose elderly, dying mother was incontinent overheard a nurse say "Well, I'm not touching her. I'm a clean nurse".
Once upon a time it would have been part of what was considered care.
I don't think the current free-at-the-point-of-access can be sustained &, when it collapses, we'll all be in schtuck.
On a brighter note...... the forecast for the end of the month (25th on) looks a bit better. Not exactly Med sunshine but we might even get low 20s! :j
Sad when someone gets that excited about sun in summer, eh? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

trouble is the insurance premiums are high... and some folk cant afford it. also any previous history excludes some even from the private sector, bit like car insurance ..any sign of poss claims and they up it !!
on the brighter note ive got tickets for NF show next week. a friend from portsmouth [who lives on a shoe string !] always comes to me for 5 days in the "summer" and i try and treat her [admist protests ] . my "old boy" friend [83] always pays for me as hes a member and we have posh nosh and posh seats.. so im paying to add my friend. SO I HOPE IT DOESNT ****

Its not really the lace for an argument about the whys and whatfors of health care, but i have experience several over the years, and it is misguided to think ours is the best ime. There is a lot to love about it, but its failings are many in comparison to some others. The argument often becomes .state or insurance, while there are many shades between, including refunded and subsidised. Free at point of use is a strength and a failing for nhs i think.
Have a great time at nf show alfie, at least the enforced go slow gets to ve spent with a friend.0 -

In some countries, yes. However, employers pay the insurance in some countries &, if wanted, the individual pays for additional insurance. They also have systems which pay for those suffering from serious & terminal conditions.
I think we've just been brainwashed into thinking our system is the best in the world when, frankly, it hasn't been that for many decades.on the brighter note ive got tickets for NF show next week. a friend from portsmouth [who lives on a shoe string !] always comes to me for 5 days in the "summer" and i try and treat her [admist protests ] . my "old boy" friend [83] always pays for me as hes a member and we have posh nosh and posh seats.. so im paying to add my friend.
