Re woodcarving club, i will have a look. I get the village club lists for the four villages i am between, and while there is loads going on there is no woodcarving.

Another digger day today! We had a variety of little jobs that could be accomplished by just a digger. These included digging up and replanting 4 apple/pear trees, moving about half a tonne of large (6" thick) concrete blocks from down by the stream , pulling out half a dozen shrub roses (sorry lir, don't like 'em!:o) making a trench for the yew hedge and removing the massive root of the diseased bird cherry we'd cut down. We also relocated some old gateposts I couldn't lift, let alone move.
We also started the exciting job of landscaping the area where we're making a new garden & copse, but ran out of soil quite quickly. That job will have to wait until we can have the dumper here to raid the soil heap in the bottom field.
Total cost for that little lot was £60. Worth every penny, especially the jobs I could never have done, no matter how long I'd toiled.0 -
davesnave.. its so satisfying getting so many labour intensive jobs done in double quick time
i could do so many things like clear the ditches out and level areas if only i could get a mini digger in herei would have to take a fence down to get to the ditch but then how do i get digger across ditch to where else i need it ??:o i wouldnt like to risk a ramp of sorts. it would have to span approx 8ft and i think thats dodgy
no other way in as woods on 2 sides, bank on 1 and ditch on tother!:(
i dream of a digger sorting all the areas out...:D0 -

The surround looks good to me alfie; in fact it looks blooming brilliant! :T
I really miss the oak surround we had made to fit into our old house.
As I remember, WI comes in two flavours. The Jam & Jerusalem traditional WI and WI Country Markets, now just called Country Markets.
DW & I began selling as members of a WI, but it was obvious that particular branch had age issues and lacked dynamism. DW and a couple of other younger ladies therefore set up a new branch nearer the city centre, selling on Saturdays instead of a weekday. You can guess how that went down!
We continued selling at both markets for a while, but after being told to apologise for bringing "too many" plants to the original market, I'm afraid we sent them a letter full of home truths instead. We were excommunicated!:rotfl:
The rest is history. The branch DW helped to set up survived & eventually became part of the very first Farmers' Market, where it still functions today. The other branch folded when the ravages of time and lack of support became too obvious, even to those who remained.....
I have a feeling 'natural selection' has brought change everywhere now.Certainly, the Country Markets I've seen in recent years have all been pretty good.

Not as they stand. Big, old roots. No names. Flower for ten minutes a year. Wouldn't put my name to it!0
