Some companies will come out free & see about the rising damp & what needs doing as it would seem it's a prob in that wall. They would give you a quote.
CTC, Not necessarily the best way to go - they will often quote for work that doesn't need doing, or so I hear. We got an independent damp surveyor in here, not enormously cheap (sorry can't remember how much, maybe around £300+, including travel time which was a fair distance), but well worth it for the peace of mind. There was a lot more damp in here than we suspected, so ended up having the whole place replastered and new skirting everywhere too. Since we had concrete sickness the whole ground floor had to be dug out and replaced, so at least we know we have proper DPC everywhere now!
Try picking the brains of one of the Damp surveyors on here, check out David Aldred, if you read some of his past posts you might get an idea what's going on.0 -

I darte nopt go and get on my hands and knees to garden, incase i cannot get back up, its too cold and wet to get stuck out there for a while, on a nice day i don't mind as i can relax until able, lol.
LOL, I got trapped in front garden for a couple of hours one morning! Have a special sort of rocking stool for weeding, but found couldn't get up off it! On the lawn it doesn't matter, but this was on old rough paving. Kept praying someone would walk by and give me a hand, but nobody did! In the end had to just tip self forward onto knees and push up on walking stick, still don't know how I managed!
So knackered only managed to pot on 5 tom plants yesterday, leaving 6 to do today. Plus the chitted nasturtiums will go mouldy if I don't pot them up soon. Patty pan squashes are showing their faces too now.And yet more broad beans as didn't think the ones I started outside were going to germinate, so chitted some indoors. Taken ages for them to emerge after I potted the started seeds into pots, but suddenly yesterday they sprung up. So we should have plenty of broad beans this year! :rotfl:
Must start off the last few morning glory seeds - only got 6 plants from the initial sowing - well, they are seed from a couple of years ago, so pleased got any at all. They're the very deep purple ones (Black Knight) so hope they continue to thrive.0 -
CTC.....just a thought... my friend has a very old [1650] cottage and he had damp in an internal wall off kitchen , builders kept telling him he needed to dig up floor etc but then he had an old boy have a look and turned out it was the flashing on the chimney [even tho not above actual damp patch]and the water was following the beam line till it found a wall to go DOWN and obviously stopped at the bottom and went UP the wall !! he had flashing fixed and problem sorted :j
might be worth you looking at the roof first ??
also be cautious of taking the "cement" from base of walls as this was in itself a type of damp course, almost like a skirting board.and as already mentioned it IS a support to the walls....
again my friend had a flood and the repairer [and insurance co] said it HAD to be put back after the dry out period as part of the vital restructure/repair......0 -
Cold here again.
Sorry you had a time of it Maggie - don't think the cold helps the joints. I'm as stiff as a door about the knees.
This Easterly wind is chilling indeed. Got cleared beds & seedlings but daren't put them out. May make a cloche affair with some plastic pipe & polythene if this continues as the seedlings need space, need planting really.
Ordered some hens from the hen man from Skye so pick them up tomorrow, Will give the Orp girls a breather from the boys - pace things out a bit as they are just hiding in their house, hiding from all the ....eh, attentions?0 -
We were in Wales today for another funeral, (last one was 11 months ago) but with time pressing, we couldn't really take any off-M4 detours, so it might as well have been anywhere. It looks as if we'll soon not have any family there at all.
Despite the ease of the motorways, I'm still cream-crackered after 330 miles in the saddle.:o The car is pretty much on its last legs, so very thankful that nothing interesting happened in the mechanical department....
I'm slowly potting my toms on too, Maggie. Not being open for business, I've been unsure about strategies this year, but I had a few plants extra in case people thought we were still trading. Only one person has, so far, so I've done theirs.
My peppers have been a disaster, but I re-sowed some of the sweet ones. Praying that if we have decent sunshine for a while, the chillies will pull through. All very ironic now that space isn't an issue!
Looks like a ground frost is possible tonight....:eek:0 -
hiya....
ive been putting MORE stuff on the bay tonite and am kernacked !!
my friend gave me a pair of christian louboutons to sell....the cost was ridiculous but hey ho...i'll sell em [hopefully] im slowly adding £'s to my fuel bill this month which is  again....

at home i need some big hens as my pensioners are nearly all demised now and the 2 polish twits have never layed ? [def hens] my ducks have never layed [mind you his dingle dangler is still dangling so no hope for her now]
i seem to have a home for the lazy here and as if they all sign a pact to NOT produce, safe in the knowledge that thier necks are not in jepordy !!:o
