Oh choille, stay near the stove and keep warm. It just a wretch now. Summer before last we cooked, Seems like forever a go it was a real summer:(0 -
Result! HMRC has just returned the fines it imposed on DW and myself a couple of months ago.....and with interest. That's 6p for her and 8p for me.
Now......how to spend it? Decisions, decisions!:rotfl:
Off to see a man about helping to mow & strim around the church, after he asked for volunteers. I'm feeling very guilty about refusing to join the local B league darts team, so this is my pennance.Bit busman's holiday though, but I expect is is for everyone who currently does it.
Cold overnight, but fairly OK here just now.0 -
Bright and clear here today!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Just lost another post - grrrrrrrrrrr
All mild & raining today now.
Hope the broadband settles down.
Shifted crinodendron as it was crowded where it was & had die back at the top. Found it totally undermined with tunnels. Mole? Huge vole things we have?.........
Gave it some fresh soil, leaf mould & a feed of bone meal & blood & it looks floppier now.....................Hope it survives as I love its bright red drops.
Found leaf mould in the bottom of a sloping hen run that's itching to be used - got a couple of barrow loads out - wonderful stuff, even love the smell of it.
Should grit me teeth & get beds cleared in the veg plot as this is ridiculous - into May & not ready for planting yet.
Away to beat myself up................0 -

Well, the church land stretches a bit further than I thought - over an acre - although quite a bit is wildflower meadow and only mown with something agricultural a couple of times a year. The rest is much like our garden, with rough undulationsand and rocks sticking up, but theirs are sometimes kerbs of granite from old graves. Don't want to beach the mower on one of those!
Then there's the trees: huge old things, complete with a rookery. Some of the nicest houses in the village back on to it, but I'd not want to live there with that infernal din. Looking at the 2' thick branch that had recently fallen in the gales, I could see other reasons for concern too....:(
When the other stuff relating to drainage and re-pointing etc is considered, there's no doubt that the church has its work cut out just to stand still on maintenance, so any little bit that I can do will be worthwhile, but it does seem like a Forth Bridge job.
I've been on my own patch this afternoon, still strimming. No more broken windows. If I can get the grass back to normal length, I might be able to get my self-propelled mower (that I push:o) back to work. The church has one of those too! :rotfl:0 -
Mower woes here too davesnave, finally dry enough to get the ancient new 'garden tractor' out and it seems to have something wrong with the drive belt? It won't go forwards any way. Dh, who knows NOTHING about anything mechanical, thinks the drive belt is loose. Co
Uld kick something really could.0 -

A few sheep & the odd strim does wonders in churchyards - especially ones on hills
There's a large rookery near our church but most of the day the birds are off feeding. They only really make a din when they first come home to roost so it doesn't last too long.
The Phantom Flag Shifter was back overnight.
It completely tipped the basket onto it's side so we had a bit of replanting to do. The whole basket has now been covered in gravel & large stones & the 2 of us struggled to get it back into place in the pond so, if it moves the basket now, I am going to opt for it being alfie's hippo rather than the current favourite (deer). :rotfl:0 -
I agree itsme, also, living things grazing churchyards seem to me to bring hope and life. Sasly, people get offended by poop. (there exists it a village near here the saga of the duck poop. Its a fairly straighforward story, and apparantly gives offence to people visiting their beloveds' graves. For me, its all part of the cyle of life and a good thing.0
