Mower woes here too davesnave, finally dry enough to get the ancient new 'garden tractor' out and it seems to have something wrong with the drive belt? It won't go forwards any way. Dh, who knows NOTHING about anything mechanical, thinks the drive belt is loose. Co
    Uld kick something really could.

The engine on the ride-on I was given has failed to turn over ever since I paid £48 for a new drive belt, and that was after I'd paid £47 for new steering cables. The nice chap who gave it to me said he'd come and look at it 'dreckly,' but that was last autumn. I'm sure he thinks I've 'done something' to it, but the truth is it's not worked since he left it here. :(

There are usually two drive belts at least; one for moving the thing, and the other for turning the blades.

I agree itsme, also, living things grazing churchyards seem to me to bring hope and life. Sasly, people get offended by poop.

Yes, I think sheep might be a bit tricky in our churchyard, and especially without some major spending on fencing.

As I've said before, chickens in the little kiddies play area passes without comment though! :rotfl:

Ours starts brilliantly, and the cutter i think is working, just it now fails when in gear, to move forwards. It sounds a bit more rattly than the day we brought it home too. The belt dh can see is 'wound round bits in what looks the rit way, but its very loose' he says. Also that the belt is stationary because there is no traction upon it, but the wheely bits it goes round are spinning.

That's how it's supposed to be when idle/stationary, but then engaging the drive (on mine it's a lever) should move something which tightens the belt.

    I'm afraid I've driven mine so little, I can't remember any more!:o

Your mower belts should look (depending on make) something like this with a mower drive belt & a blade drive belt.

The belt may just need adjusting. There should be an adjustable pulley which moves one way to tighten & the other to loosen,

What make & model is it?

:o Just realised we have mower people on here ...... lucielle(?) who would be able to explain much better than me.

Well yesterday was a mammoth gardening day :D

I took my weed remover out and filled the garden bin with those creepy buttercups :j. It is gorgeous and sunny again here so far and I am hoping to have another day getting the garden in shape. The hedge needs done and there are still parts of the grass needing cut.

Maybe if I am really enthusiastic I will get the shed cleared out so I can reclaim my potting shed :)
