Thanks Alfie, going to do that, hubby and i were working it out, and it must be at least 6 years ago we were claiming tax credits? the dates that they gave us 2008/2009 dont fit in?
I think you are right Davesnave with a competitor trying to cause trouble with trading standards, but it back fired, as everything was totally in order, and all our paperwork to do with customers etc...
Had a heck of a day yesturday, spent most of the day trying to find a stopcock tap thing for inside the house, as it was broken and some flexi style pipe to fix another bit... could we get a tap, no  so will have to hunt one down on the old internet, plus we went to machine mart to find a bush cutter attachment to our strimmer, got the bloke to open the packed and try and fit it to our strimmer, before we bought it, but it didnt fit:mad: ended up buying a new bush cutter strimmer £191 lighter now:eek: but as Rhiwfield knows, we WILL get our moneys worth out of it, and to be honest the original attachment we were going to buy, didnt seen much cop anyway...
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ened up at the house about tea time, a mate of our came up to give us a hand, and we ended up leaving at about 10pm it ened up being a great social night... with some beers a huge fire pit ( made a circile out of the old breeze bocks that were part of the old chicken sheds) with neighbours stopping and having a chat by the fire...
And to top it all, the guy i had a bit of a set two with a few weeks ago ( one of the neighbours) my proper father and his father were best of mates when they were younger ( they are both deaf) small flipping world...hay....turns out he is a top bloke ( at the momnet..lol..)
so just about to get my butt in gear go to the shop to buy some supplies, beer, junk food, and more beer:D and start all over again.... still cant find my camera, so will see if hubby can take some pics on his phone.....

G'day all.
CTC...sounds like you are starting to enjoy "the house" now... 1st impressions of people are usually swayed by thier "over protective" attitude to WHO THEY ARE GETTING AS NEIGHBOURS and it sounds like your campfire frolicks have broken the ice....no body likes upstart yuppies taking over...;) well we dont round here !!:rotfl:
ive frozen my ba**s off[if i had any...:D] walking round boot sale and not much to see, got a few bits but no great spends...
ive lined up all my plants ready to plant but have to find space or create a new bed...:o
cant find my wellies ???
its sunny but a real chill factor wind whistling through....bbbrrrrr.0 -
I tried to do a bit in the garden but the weeds were fighting to stay in the soil and I soon got grumpy and gave up
. I am quite convinced that I will wake up one day and all the weeds will all be gone
Now i have decided to spend my afternoon/evening making a shawlTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

I haven't done much this weekend......:o
Visitors.;)
I was measured for a wedding outfit and instructed to lose at least 1" round my middle, which is hard to do when visitors bring gifts of hugely fattening things.....:p
Today, we received 6 trailer loads of topsoil from a building job in the village. It was wonderful stuff and I should be overjoyed, but it would have been much handier a couple of weeks ago. Now we have placed most of the soil we need in the garden, so I have a horrible feeling this stuff will end up used for field improvement.0 -
Davesnave, when did you change your aviator?
Flip i smell like a right kipper tonight:cool::rotfl: Dont know why, but every time i put more brambles. wood etc on the fire, the wind changed directions, and yep you guessed it, it was my direction..
today we slightly modified our breeze block fire pit, basically we added a bit, to use as a bbq:D, soooooooooooo we had a bbq food as well today..
met more neighbours... and found out ( if its true) the house was built approx 1830
Alfie..... we are consentrating on clearing some of the land, rather than doing work inside the house, maybe to some people we should be consentrating on the house, but for one thing we need to earn/save money for each major job that needs doing, but on the plus side, the work we are doing isnt costing us that much to do, and it is a good way of meeting the neighbours and the regular users of the footpath.
hubby took a pic on his mobile, so will see if i can get that on here..
This might sound silly, even though i am sooooooo knackered, i am finding i have more energy to do things:rotfl: not now though, as i have sat down, and cant move now:DWork to live= not live to work0 -

We've been messing about a bit with them on another thread. It's just a pilot, but I like it, so perhaps I'll keep it. It's someone I used to go to school with, but it could have been me, about 45 years ago!
I think you are doing the right thing by being outside and meeting the neighbours/people who use the path. Once they know you, each one is another pair of eyes looking out for you when you're not around.
....And as I know from experience here, making a bit of progress on the land is cheap and very uplifting. :A
The hard bit with the house can wait, though in our case, maybe not too much longer now!0 -

CTC I love this thread.
I think you're absolutely right to focus on the outside, as long as the house is safe to live in, stuff you plant can be establishing itself while you sort out the inside later.
I've been here 21 years, moved in with two pre-school kids and my now ex-husband, and had a third baby 12 months later. We spent stupid money fixing problems inside, the seller's attitude had been 'why do it properly when you can botch it?' and we found very quickly that the electrics were lethal (no connectors or junction boxes, just twists of foil), the plumbing dangerous (routed the wrong way), and the roof and guttering unfit for a Lego house. All our money went on these, then we split up and there was no money or time to pretty up the outside, and now the family have grown up I think how shortsighted it was to just leave the outside as it was. I should have planted a native hedge along the wire fences, it would be beautiful now. I should have planted 20 trees and thousands of bulbs, years ago.
What I have done is cobbled together a couple of raised beds near the house (but not the knowledge to make the most of them), I've cleared a patch in the corner to grow more food, I've got compost bins, water butts and lawnmowers through freecycle, and established a flock of chickens and ducks.
We live in splendid isolation and my only neighbours are priceless, now they are retired their interest in growing food has taken off and we talk more over the fence now than ever before.
Good luck with all your projects, you'll get there. :beer:0 -
I've done very little over the weekend, but I'm off this evening to get a few plants for outside. It looks like we're going to be here a while longer yet, so I may as well get some crops in the ground to get SOMETHING growing!:j
CTC - it sounds like you're off to a good start, great stuff! Did the seeds come last week? I've got to get some sowed myself or we'll be reliant on the dratted supermarkets again...
