Lir, sounds almost like a slurry pond, would a slurry pump do the trick without blocking? Just wondered whether it could be pumped up to a large storage chamber with a sand layer to filter out nasties and allow gravity to water your veg.

Better still, listen to Alf, she knows more than I do!

Thanks RAS...., we are heard and read of different things, it is logical to to do it in August, and as ITSME said let the plant help you..lol...

why did you use wallpaper paste with the weed killer? was it so the weedkiller would stay in the plant?

Seen one of the previous owners earlier, so he could show us where the stopcock was... looks as though there might be problems with the water supply in very cold weather....( another expensive job to add to the list)..

We also found out the land has never actually been measured etc, and it was on what the mother thoought how much land there was.... going by the size of the garden ( 3rd of an acre) we worked it out there must be at least 3 plus acres..

So was wondering.... has anyone, or do you know who could measure our land? does it cost alot? or could they work it out from the land registry maps etc?

flip got to go the dog is just about to nick my curly wurly

I was wondering that too, CTC. My OH laughs cos he says I say a different figure of acreage whenever anyone asks. I believe it's about 4.5, but who knows?

Hope you got to savour your curly wurly :rotfl:

CTC, I think that you can use Google Earth to get an area measurement, not sure how though :o

It IS a slurry store, but because we do not have cows it just takes dry waste from the horses now, but because of the slope, rain builds up in it, turning it into poo soup:D. Or porridge, depening on the time of year.

DO you remember the wooded area, opp the house, that went past the footpath bridge? well that goes on alot further than we first thought..

Thanks for the heads up with google earth:T will get the kids to have a look for me, as i am hopeless at things like that..

Found out there are 2 apple trees there, the one we thought was apple, is umm apple:D( think its a cooker, going by what the bloke said) and remember that huge tree in the corner, there is a very old apple tree near there too. ( looks as though there was one in each cottage garden)

Thanks for the heads up on the prices Rhiwie....will the marn ( sorry had to spell it like this but havent got a welsh key board, otherwise i would have a 'roof' over the a) scrub up ok? as it did look really rusty?

Yep i saved my curlywurly( just) but has no got the wrapper trying to lick any bits of chocolate off it:rotfl:
