Incredibly cold here but been a gorgeous bright sparkly day. The sky is so clear with the moon big & bright tonight. Just saying the other week we had it so hot too.....for a wee while.

Like Old Mr Grace in a TV series before your time, if he did drop by it was a case of "Well done...You're all doing very well!" :rotfl:

did your head master have his own personal busty nurses at his side tho ??? ;)

or did you "by the nature park"......:rotfl::rotfl:

No, but as I recall, he was married to a very attractive lady.:p He was a pillar of decency and a good JP, but he didn't have a clue about education.

The Conservation Area, to give it its correct title, was used for various illicit purposes, but in those days, youngsters were canny enough to not to leave any trace of their activities, just like we didn't when I was a teenager. T'would have been blimmin cold, courting in winter without the odd barn or cricket pavillion! ;)

The guy who created the wildlife place, covering about an acre, was amazingly far-seeing. Single handedly, he ensured that the council would never be able to sell the land for building. :T

Blimey Rhiw...... about 170 tors on Dartmoor & you have to pick a painting done on a foggy day :rotfl: Actually it's a lovely little picture but I wish he'd gone back on a better day for our benefit ;)

I've no idea, sorry. Be the wrong moor for me, me ansom. :rotfl:
There's not even any indication which direction it's looking from/to as there's no sunlight & the direction makes a heck of a difference when it comes to what the rocks on top look like.

I've looked at it long & hard & what does occur to me is that it's an unusual Dartmoor view. There aren't too many places on Dartmoor where that series of almost rolling hills come one after the other.
Dave will know what I mean when I say there's not enough sky for most of Dartmoor.
I know of some around Widecombe, Chagford & Tavistock but..........
For someone who knows Dartmoor well it would probably be a doddle.

I'm not hugely familiar with Dartmoor, being an Exmoor lad. Now, when we go out walking, it's the combes on the edge of the moors we tend to visit, not the rugged bits high up.

I think I've only climbed two Tors on Dartmoor, and one of those was during a hippie love-in, which I don't remember too well.......

Davesnave... you are prob right about the keys.

Ii have heard 2 stories about the selling of the cottages. one, that it was being left to 2 brothers? one wanted to buy the other one out, but could not raise the money, hence it went to auction,

But from a friend of ours, who owns a livery staple just opp our land ( on thye entrance in) they had tried selling the house for £140k plus, which i am sure i would have noticed on my travels around rightmove and EA websites...

I know i should have done this well before now:cool: but i need to knuckle down and work out our household budgets etc... been putting it off, and off...

All i can say is, good job our chickens are in full lay ( at the moment, might change because of this cold snap) and hubby and i dont mind eating eggs with everything ( at the moment...lol....)

I am also going to sit down and trowl the internet for local businesses that might have waste fruit, veg, bread ( that has not been in a kitchen, so shops, manufacturers, wholesalers etc) and write/contact them regarding collecting their waste on a regular basis... I know alot of them have this all sorted, BUT, it is well worth me trying..especially to try and keep the cost of feeding the pigs down ( when we eventually have them) I might even offer them a small amount per kg ( which would be alot less than the pig nuts per kg).

I am also going to look out potential places i could get acorns in the autumn, as by all accounts pigs love these, and do really well on them...maybe a request on freecycle might help :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
Ctc i have a beautiful book called ' the delectable egg'. It mainly gives variations on a theme for sauces for various different ways of cooking eggs. I think its out of print, but it had things i had never heard of, making eggs benedict look positively plebian. I had considered sharing recipes to jazz up a breakfast or supper egg, but not sure if anyone would be interested on various things to do with a poached egg!

    Rain, rain, rain here, hurrah.

Still the garden grass is up to my knees in places, while the field grass is not geowing at the same rate at all. I cannot decide what to do about grass this year...i could let a local farmer have the crop for a favour, or i could likewise, let someone graze it for a favour, or, if its going to be a shocker of a year keep it and try and sell the crop in summer.

Also spraying, if i am going to do it i have to get on with it, it will mean we set our soil association plans back, but seeing the weeds yesterday made be feel veryu un- organic. Iof i had a herd of children to send out to weed it might be conceivable to tackle by hand, but may a spraying year would be a good idea.

LOL that really takes me back to my childhood - one of my favourite outings was to collect acorns and go and feed the pigs!
