Bah! Spoilsports! I bet they think you got it too cheap!
You'll have the last laugh though.
It's been a bit parky here today, but occasionally almost warm down at the yard when the sun's put in an appearance. Glad the Aga is still on though.
Most of the time today I've been grovelling in the dirt, sorting out the bottom boards, so I can plant my comfrey bed alongside the polytunnel. I'm all stiff now, but free plant food makes it worth it.
Whatever we build here, well reduce the number of external doors, which is 7 if the garage is counted. Ridiculous! Far too many inside too.
Alfie I know what Majolica is; even done a bit in that style myself, but I'll have to look that one up. What I think of when I hear the word, is the stuff people bring back from 2 weeks on the the Costa Packet! :rotfl:
EDIT: Cor! They produced some lovely wares. You clever bunny!:beer:0 -
CTC...was there not something in the written stuff stating a date to sign ? i know at auction YOU are bound by a set time to pay !! so there should be a set in stone time for hand over in my books !!0

Dave, are you a potter?
So pleased for you alfie!
I tried digging up some docks today, hahahaha. Ground far too hard. Got half a barrow ful, nut spraying sounds better and better, the thistles are coming back now too.0 -

Leave yourself enough to get out, DaveOurs seem OTT until you look at the possibility of having to get out quickly during a fire. Take any away & you risk being stuck on the wrong side of the fire.
Well, I conceded defeat & turned the heating on during the late afternoon. There was a little sleet earlier, it didn't come to anything but it's really cold & has been quite dark all afternoon
So, we decided to snuggle down & watch something on TV. T'other 'alf chose Les Mis - just to make us even more depressed. :rotfl:
Must say Neelson & Rush were very good but I could have done with something a little lighter
Best of luck for tomorrow, CTC
Alfie - I'm envisaging you napping on the top of a sort of Princess & the Pea bed to which another quilt is added each year. Bless your 'old lady' - I hope she's fully recovered from her stroke now.0 -

Not any more.
I went on pottery courses back in the 70s when it was a very trendy thing to do, but it was mainly because I used art heavily in my teaching at that time. We were a 'fading school,' living on past glories, so I saw high standards of presentation as a way through to higher standards all round.
It was also fun. In those days we could construct a dustbin kiln on a Friday, fill it with sawdust from the local furniture factory, add our pots, and return on Monday to find out how our Raku or burnished ware had turned out. Nobody would vandalise it over the weekend.
We had an electric kiln for 'prettier' pottery, right up to stoneware, and in those days no one grumbled about the cost! Basically, so long as my kids produced lovely things to put on display on Open Days, I could do no wrong.
I think I worked in the terrapin hut, sited in the Nature Area, for around 5 years. We and rarely had a visit there from the Head or anyone. Like Old Mr Grace in a TV series before your time, if he did drop by it was a case of "Well done...You're all doing very well!" :rotfl:0 -
Nice fire going here too.
Re the great window debate I'm with Dave. 17 windows, all georgian style, endless painting. So glad I replaced with PVC.
Alfie, can I employ you as one of those Govt sponsored unpaid consultants to find underpriced antiques for me? I'll give you a good reference when you've made me the first £10k
Been buying today and starting to research. So for those of you in the south-west, or anyone who knows Dartmoor (where it probably is), any ideas where this is? Its by R J Lugg c 1920.0 -

Well, we had 3 external doors in our last house and there's likely to be 4 in this one eventually, and that seems OK, bearing in mind that we shall not have any sleeping quarters upstairs.0 -
