Easy way to check if the droning is engine or wheel related - when it's droning, put the clutch in and rev the engine. If the droning noise changes with the revs, it's probably an engine pulley. If the noise stays the same as you rev, it's coming from the wheels - most likely a bearing as already suggested.
No it's more like a loud booming noise when the engine is on no matter how fast or slow or stationary you are.0 -
An update, my Volkswagen Lupo SDI which I picked up for £1000 is still going strong. It's now on 138k miles (bought it on 92k), so it's coming up to a cambelt change, although I'm somewhat tempted to play cambelt lottery.
I run it primarily on vegetable oil, although at this time, I'm running on pretty much fresh diesel as it's this time of year you might cause excessive wear on the engine.
Maintenance in the last 6 months? A window wiper
Doesn't seem to want to die does this little Volkswagen.0 -
Oldest sons just passed his test and has got himself a 2004 Clio 1.2 for £900.
Big pile of invoices with the car so well looked after, 6 months MOT.
My own passat's due MOT'd soon, I'm going to do discs and pads all round (approx £100) and see how it goes.
Dont think it should need much after that.0 -
Just put a new battery in the Hyundai. Its been cranking rather hesitantly for a while and finally had to be jump started on Thursday. Looks like it was still on the original battery so not bad going!0

my neighbour just picked up a 55 plate punto with 85k on the clock with a weeks mot for £200 cant see it needing anything major for test...
he bought it for the engine and box for his 51 plate punto as its headgasket is dead.. i said your daft for using a perfectly serviceable newer car as a donor.. get this new one sorted and use that.
anyway when he weighs in his old one and gets the tax back off it, the new one will only owe him £100 after retaxing the 55 plate..
a little jealous hahaSealed pot challenger # 10

Doesn't get as warm as the Saab or as quick as I found out at 05:30 on Friday when it was -2.5, and I miss the heated seats and mirrors.
You'll maybe find the thermostat has stuck open, depending on its location it could be as simple at 2 bolts lift out, drop new one in and tighten bolts. I've just changed one in a Volvo for about £6, a lost next to no coolant.0 -
£500 MX5 bought two years ago, 170k now on the clock (I hate that phrase) selling tomorrow for £600.
Total cost of repairs in two years, £0.

I've just had a part worn Accelera tyre fitted yesterday (never heard of them before) to the Megane, 185/60/R15 for £23. Tread depth is nearly new.
The garage said my track rod ends are knackered as he was able to wobble the wheel when it was jacked up and so tried to sell me new track rods. I declined as the MOT is due in under a month and rather take it to one of my usual garages and get it done if true.0 -

I hope you didn't pay much for that tyre, it was probably only about £30 new. They're pretty horrible.0 -
