I really liked the 600, nightfire red really suits them, Rover should have done more with it. If it has got to that ripe old age someone must have been clearing the mudtrap in the back wings and I bet its had its driver side window regulator replaced at least once. With it being at that money you can drive it with the spirit it deserves and not always be worrying if the turbo is about to blow or if one of the internals is going to try and peep out of the engine or gearbox.

As luck would have it, a friend was considering scrapping his 620ti - I sold it to him about 4 years ago. Lovely car, but with 220,000 miles on the clock (which for a turbocharged petrol engine is good going) it's a bit tired now.
I've bought it, and I'm currently taking it to bits and stockpiling any parts that I may need in the future, down to every last suspension bush. :)

So far, so good - averaging a steady 30MPG. The 'donor' came with a rather tasty stainless steel exhaust system, nothing too loud but certainly has a nice burble. That's now fitted and it's improved the back end to no end.
Work done so far - 4x spark plugs (£7.00) and I've fitted a panel air filter (I sell them as part of my business, so very low cost). Had to buy 3 new tyres @ £42 each for Hankook K115s.

In the near future I'll be fitting the Bilstein coilover suspension the donor has fitted. It's very rare, and I'm tempted to sell it on eBay, but to be honest the car is a bit wobbly when tipping into corners at speed, so they should help firm it up.

I though it had to be under a certain age to be licensed initially, but after that, it didn't matter.
Varies enormously depending on the local authority. Some are like that, some have to be a certain age on first registration then have another absolute age limit.

Yep, I'd only ever looked into it for my LA.

My '95 BMW 5 Series Touring failed her MOT today...
On a bit of grit stuck in the rear seat belt socket! That was removed and pass certificate duly issued!
Several advisories mainly re brake hoses which isn't surprising on a 19 year old car and a couple of split dust covers. I have reared a very handy BMW trained mechanic in the form of #1 son, so he'll get a few bob for fixing them for me.

In the 10 years I've had her I've never had to have anything other than consumables replaced, apart from one driver seatbelt.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

  • Back brakes needed done on the Passat. No shoes, so thats an advantage.

Had to buy a wind back tool though, £23. So £38 all in.

My Passat estate 2003 PD130 is going to cross the 250k this xmas, we got it almost new and was a high(ish) miler in 2005 with 80k recorded.

It's still on the original exhaust, clutch, gear box, engine, is this normal for these cars?

We did spent on a new radiator and alternator plus a door lock and a seat belt.

My older than that VAG diesel is on 220k and also has original exhaust, clutch, gear box, engine, wheel bearings and driveshafts. The only thing I have changed is brakes and some suspension parts because I drive it like a new one on motorways. But Shhhh! don't tell everyone - I might be looking for a cheap high mileage newer one in about 5 years!

bumped the meggy last week (my fault) needed new headlight which is kind of wedged in as front panel is damaged. certainly drivable and should pass another mot. however as my insurance will go up im gonna get something a bit newer before renewal still within banger money of course

im wanting a bigger car something like a laguna (newer mk2) megane mk2 or something along them lines.. insurance seems to be cheaper than my 1.4 meggy on a 2.0 diesel or 1800 petrol

edit-- ill loose 3 years of my 6 years ncb :/ seems to only put up my insurance about 40 quid anyway so nothing major
