Am I though the only one annouyed at new car prices allowing some to have run a new car for 3 or 4 years for effectively free ?
I'm currently running an Ioniq electric, the cost to me (after discounts) was just under £30k.
Not sure how long I plan on keeping it yet as I'm not sure what my long term plans are yet, but definitely it's not worth £30k now and won't be when I get rid of it.
Mom at the moment has a Chevrolet Spark, she paid £3k for it about 4 years ago (it's a '13' plate). Not quite in bangernomics territory, but she'd likely get more of that back both as a percentage and amount than I will for the Ioniq when it comes to selling, and her average mileage (working for the NHS between 2 sites) is currently a lot higher than mine is, with a lot more of that paid by business expenses. Cash operating costs excluding depreciation have been around 12p/mile for her, and I'm not sure that even with the lower running costs of an EV I will be able to get into that ballpark.I could live in a shed but I would rather live in a house.0 -

The high cost of new cars combined with the lack of supply has pushed up the value of a lot of 0-4 year old cars, in many instances these cars are now worth more than the purchaser paid allowing them to effectively run at Zero depreciation ?, I appreciate it's strange times but its not unheard off for the right models purchased. Frustrating though !0 -
What are these "0-4 year old cars" of which you speak???......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Not updated here in a while but the 16 year old Nissan Note is still going
Had it nearly 9 years now so not sure what I'll do when it dies, the thought of choosing a car is something I'm avoiding for as long as possible!0 -

Wow. Wbac has doubled the valuation on my focus bought for £200 in Dec 2019. Value has gone from £150 last year to £300 yesterday. Hi all
I haven't posted on here for a while but got advice when I bought my last car, Hyundai Coupe 06 plate (2L). It's been a good drive, especially on the motorway, so aerodynamic. :-D
It got through its 4th MOT since I bought it, easily again last week and I took it to my usual garage after for the advisories. Both MOT place and mechanic commented for the first time on its age, and mentioned a few bits that are going wrong. The mechanic appeared to be advising me to get shot of it in so many words, soon anyway. He said the exhaust is not looking too good and it would be expensive to replace. It had a new clutch about 2.5 years go as I wasn't ready to let it go then. However now I am more inclined to start shopping around, and if budget allows replace it in maybe 6-12 months. It's getting rust around the sills and door edges. Has 135,000 on the clock and had 80,000 ish when I bought it. I had hoped to get it to 200,000 and thought it would last longer but I have some trust in the mechanic and value his opinion. Any advice from here would be welcome, on whether a slightly newer car (don't know what yet) would be a good idea). At least he has given me a warning so I can start saving, and do some research and get excited about a change of car (it is a bit clunky around town to be honest but makes up for it on long journeys). I will be looking for another bangernomic I think as I've enjoyed the size, speed and relative comfort of this car and don't tend to spend more than £2k to buy a car. Would like an automatic next though.0
